This is an old thread, but since I didn’t see my top three steals repped to much going to jump in … I’m pretty utilitarian in their real world uses
S90v - stainless great Cutting with 600 grit edge very aggressive meat cutter and pull cutting
Cruwear - tough great for tough task

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
You should see the way some of the properties of soils are measured.
Geotechnical engineer?
Deadboxhero's video probably has probably sold more rex45 than anything else
Someone should do a video explaining impact toughness vs edge strength

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
Edge stability is controlled mainly by edge geometry, but following that is is grain structure (finer is better), carbide volume (lower is better), carbide size(smaller is better) , and hardness (higher is better, though all steels have a point where they become too brittle).
Great things to ...

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
Resistance to deformation is measured by hardness (not controlled by steel but by heat treatment). Resistance to chipping is measured by toughness. So asking which is the most stable but without toughness doesn't make any sense. An edge which loses cutting ability to either chipping or ...

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
Yes geometry plays a factor but things being equal Rex 45 blows s30v, m390 etc out of the water. Just watch big brown beats video comparing identical geometry m4 vs rex 45. So geometry is an important factor but certainly not the answer. Also it was a lateral strength test.

Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
Which steels have the most stable edges? people always say that it’s the toughest steels, but that’s not always true. Tough steals or shock resistant steels resistant to the point of not breaking weather dropped or through lateral force that doesn’t always correlate to edge stability. Eg spring ...

Re: CPM SPY27 | Edge Performance
I'm eager to see the results
100% I saw Submicron’s review on blade forms I am hoping Shawn can confirm or deny these test. Based on sub microns review on waveform this might be the most undervalued and under rated steel to come out in a long time
I'm very surprised that other people ...

Re: Knife that won’t chip, won’t roll?
Thanks for all the words and insight! looong time lurker first time poster am leaning towards Hap 40 for the sharpening response have read it takes a great edge in touch ups! Just wish it was in a manix ! Also will seriously look into cruwear.

Knife that won’t chip, won’t roll?
Ok, Ok I know, all knives will either chip or roll if abused and that geometry and heat treat, thickness behind the edge play a factor.
However for spyderco production knives at factory angles 15-20 dps, what won’t roll but also will resist chipping if maybe you slip and Knick something? Of corse ...
