Hi,

What kind of color Rit Dye can I use to give my Native 5 Salt in Magnacut a dark green color?
Shall I use hot water? Any additives?
Maybe you have a picture if you’ve done it yourself?

Last yellow handle i did to dark green was 3 parts peacock green to 1 part navy dyemore. Splash of vinegar at about 200 degrees. Dunked it and checked every few mins

Straight up black synthetic turned my Pacific Salt 2 and Salt 2 a dark green. Overcast right now so kind of hard to get pics, but the base must be blue/green for that










This is the same dye with less time in the pot and after it faded some (the pics above are after redyeing)

You get a nice 70's lime green with a quick dunk in Tropical Teal rit dye. Longer will get you a darker green.

These are both done with tropical teal. You can see spots of the teal color on the paper towel. The Dfly was just a few seconds, the endura was 30 seconds +. Just keep dunking until it's dark enough.

I used 6 parts water 1 part dye, bring to a boil and then turn to low heat/simmer. Dunk for 5 - 10 seconds at a time, checking the color as you go. I rinsed in cool water in between dunks.

Thanks for the info! I try to get an olive drab color. So maybe I’m going to mix a bit of brown with green Rit Dye.

Yes that’s the exact color I try to get!
What colors Rit Dye did you use? And is the back lock black?

Below is everything I did to get this OD Green color, the back lock is the standard satin color, I think the shadows from the picture are making it look black but it isn't.

So this is actually a mix of three different Rit Dyes that is suppose to be "Moss Green" but if left in long enough you get a nice OD Green. You will need Apple Green, Dark Green, and Dark Brown. I took a small/medium sized pot and put 4 cups of water, 1 cup white vinegar, one squirt of dish soap (not sure if it does anything), 1 tablespoon of Apple Green, 1/2 tablespoon of Dark Green, 1/2 tablespoon of Dark Brown. Once it heated to a low boil I soaked the knife for 3 minutes total, checking it every 30 seconds to see if the color was where I wanted it and 3 minutes seemed to get me there. At first I thought I had done it too dark but out in direct sunlight it turned out to be a nice OD Green.

Thanks I’m going to try this recipe. It’s kind of difficult to get Rit Dye in the Netherlands but I managed. Now I need to wait for the Native 5 and dye to arrive.

How is the color holding up? Any signs of fading or that it comes off in the corners?

So far the color seems to be holding up well, I haven't noticed yet any signs of it wearing off or fading. However, this knife is not my primary carry but one knife in a large rotation of knives I carry so that could be a factor into why I haven't noticed much wear on it.
