Rusty knife repair

Hello,

How would you go about getting a rusty knife to be good and loose again? It's a one-hand open one and it used to be really easy to just flick it out. I've used WD-40, got the major rust off the thing, and got it much improved, but it's still not really fast and smooth and loose like it was.

Thank you!

I would use a product called Evapo-Rust to remove the existing rust, flush it and oil it again. This assumes it is a knife that cannot be disassembled. If you can disassemble it, do that first, then soak the parts in Evapo-Rust. Depending on how deep the rust penetrated the steel, you might have a lot of careful sanding to smooth out the steel.

Pictures would help people give you a better idea of what is possible, of course.

Good luck with your project!
