Yep, 500 pieces total run, is what I read.
I didn't think they did sprint runs that small, or exclusives. Thought minimums were 800-1200 with an option for another batch of the same size. That's almost as low as the cpm154/s90v composite PM2.
Yeah, I don't know exact details but it was an extremely small run. So small that, as you can tell, a LOT of people tried hard to snag one but couldn't. I talked to Brian over at REC and when asked if he could order another batch he said that he could get the same colors but not in the 204p. So maybe there was a limited amount of that steel for Spyderco to utilize.

Yeah, they should do another run of this combo but in another steel. Id vote for Cruwear/3V/4V/52100. Any of those seem more befitting of the outdoorsy/tactical color scheme.

These amazing custom Para 3s are creating havoc in the knife universe. Everyone seems to want one and the people that really want one can't get one. I asked once before in a different thread, but is there another Spyderco knife that has caused this much buzz with 16 current and 2 more models slated for with means 18 variants in less than 24 months?

I wouldn’t trade my Rex45 Para3 or the Blade HQ Jade/DLC for this exclusive, because the completely failed knife release soured me on the knife. I really enjoy all my knives, I don’t sell them and I often gift knives to friends...so each one is kinda sentimental to me in some way.
I bet in the next few years we will get a few more iconic must have Para 3s. I’m excited to see which ones I end up with:)

I remain optimistic that an un-coated 204P bladed Para3 will make it to production some day for some vendor. I will then spring from my sofa and get one.

Plus, BLUE! But yes 204P is from what I understand the US equivalent of M390.

Are you sure they are selling? There are lots of people asking crazy prices for knives on there.

If so that is just nuts!

yep, two sold for around $400. One was $399.95 PLUS shipping...LOL. Dude had to make sure he got that extra $3.75 shipping because the $250+ markup wasn't enough.

Wow that's crazy. I never thought I'd see a Para 3 going for Nirvana money.

And as long as people are willing to pay stupid prices like that we will always have flippers.

The way I see it there’s a few factors driving the price up on this knife:

1. ~500 in circulation
2. PVD Coating (Spyderco hasn’t released any PVD coated knives in the past that I’m aware of)
3. Para 3 is a popular model

All the above combined with a unique steel makes this version the most collectible Para 3 to date, which unfortunately for a lot of folks, secondary market prices climb insanely high.

Looking back at the trend based on actual sales:

In early to mid July it was selling for an average price of a bit under $250.

Beginning in mid-August the average transaction average is just over $300.

Over the last 7 days the average transaction is over $360.

Where will it end? $450? $500? More?

I think the small production run (500) is too small for an exclusive or a sprint run. The last really small production run that I recall was for the:
PARA-MILITARY 2 #C81CFPE2 PLAIN EDGE CARBON FIBER CPM 154/S90V
This was NOT a dealer exclusive but Spyserco's first CPM 154/S90V offering of this steel. This run was 300 pieces! Try to buy one of these...

From the auction site:

NEW Spyderco C81CFPE2 Carbon Fiber Paramilitary 2 w/ CPM154/S90V Composite Blade
Condition: New
Ended: Jun 12, 2018, 09:19:32 AM PDT
Price: US $779.95

Bottom line if an exclusive or a sprint run is less than 800-1200 pieces, flippers will drive prices very high and a good portion of us Spyderco die hards will be very unhappy. Spyderco should know this and NOT do super small runs that cause more dissatisfaction.

I agree, but I wonder if the contract was for 500 or 600 or 300 or whatever it was, or if it was really for 1000 or 1200 initially, but perhaps there were QC issues with the new PVD process and only a fraction of the original order made it past QC. Im wondering if this was the case with the St Nicks Delica as well as there were only 300 or so of those, if that. And they alluded to problems getting them made. I think the DLC Manix from BHQ was also a very small run. Sold out in minutes.

These small runs definitely fuel scalping and crazy prices. I feel like sprints and exclusives should be 1200 pieces with half of that being DLC and half satin/stonewash. Or just do 1200 dlc and 1200 satin/stonewash on popular models like the Para 3 and PM2 that you know are gonna sell. A concurrent run of DLC on the Rex45 sprints would have been nice and would have allowed people to get one without refreshing websites all day or paying scalper prices.
