Just curious as to whether anyone has done any meat tests with the Yojimbo 2 yet.

Testing blade penetration on cuts of meat.Chipped Karambit wrote:I don't exactly know what a meat test is
based off that description of a meat test. As a practitioner who understands dynamics of a cut, the Yojimbo 2 will EXCEL! That extra thick spine provides mass, that coupled with the edge geometry, the unique effect of the hollow ground blade, and the edge of an CPMS30V blade followed by the ability to put force into the knife on a strike will result in a remarkably good slice or cut depending on the technique.chuck_roxas45 wrote:Doc Snubnose has compiled a result of meat tests done with various knives. Mike Janich does his "porkman" cutting demonstrations with knives that he recommends in his MBC.
Meat is quite easy to pierce with even a pencil but most "meat tests" are done to reveal how a particular knife or design will work(how much damage it inflicts) when slashing or doing pressure cuts. A lot of "meat tests" will also simulate clothing.
I'm thinking the Yo2 would actually do pretty well too. I did some trial cutting when I got mine a few months ago. I don't do meat tests however(too expensive). I just wrap some sacks around a pole and wrap with packing tape(that's my cutting dummy) and it did quite well for a 3 inch knife.gnlw wrote:Thanks for the video chuck_roxas45. If I recall correctly, Dr. Snubnose did some pretty extensive testing using a similar method with a number of Spydercos a few years ago. I think they involved both cuts and thrust/cuts. The original Yojimbo did extremely well in the tests and was one of the top performers. I'm wondering if the Yojimbo 2 would do as well. I would think so.
43% discount at bladehq seems like a sign to try testing :D lolDr. Snubnose wrote:I would love to meat test a Yo2...I did not purchase one...but from a design point of view...I'm thinking the Yo1 would be the better performer....but till I have one in hand for testing...I can't be 100% sure......results would be interesting to say the least.
Doc :)
I thought it did well enough when it was open doc but then I don't have Yo1 to compare it to. I defer to your experience doc. You did tell me about the chinook 3 and I still went ahead and bought 3. :oDr. Snubnose wrote:I would love to meat test a Yo2...I did not purchase one...but from a design point of view...I'm thinking the Yo1 would be the better performer....but till I have one in hand for testing...I can't be 100% sure......results would be interesting to say the least.

Ay capt, to be honest the design does not interest me. Not sayinig it isn't a good MBC Fighting Knife, it's just not a Yojimbo, if you want me to elaborate I will, but for now I'll leave it like that...Doc :)captnvegtble wrote:I'm surprised Doc that you don't have a Yo2. Are you planning on buying one, or does the design not interest you?
Hehehe. Admittedly doc, admittedly. :)Dr. Snubnose wrote:Ay capt, to be honest the design does not interest me. Not sayinig it isn't a good MBC Fighting Knife, it's just not a Yojimbo, if you want me to elaborate I will, but for now I'll leave it like that...Doc :)
CKarambit: I still have the yo1 tests, and a few thousand more results from all types of knives going back some twenty years to include early spyderco models now long out of production for instance)......
Chuck: And I say this with a heavy heart..and knife bro you know I love you.......There is no fixing stupid...I tried.....but :p
Doc :)
