Which is Spyderco's Strongest Folder?

Som epole say Lil' temp some say ATR and then some say Manix.

My Manix 80mm seems very strong. So I'm sure a lot of people would say both "Mani" are strong due to blade thickness, the liners and the locking system. A lot of my other Spydies are liner locks. So for the liner locks I would say the blade of the Terzuola Starmate looks very strong as does the Tim Wegner. I don't have a Lil' Temp so I can't really say. Some may say the liner locks are not as strong of a knife because of the liner lock, but the Starmate, Lum Tanto are "tactical" knives in my mind and are strong. Just my thoughts

To me it is a toss up between the S30V Military and the Lil Temperance. But there are so many Spydercos that are built like a skyscraper that are almost too numerous to mention. My C-44P&S big Dyad is one very tough knife. I have been carrying it for about a year now with no problems what so ever. For a little knife you can't hardly beat the Titanium Salsa :spyder:

I believe that the compression lock is the strongest of the the Spyderco locks The US made back locks are strong, the Chinook and Manix. The Ball lock knives are very strong as well...Ed

I agree on the compression lock. Combine that with steel liners and strong handle material. I'd say Lil Temp or Gunting. Chinook II I believe is a real strong back lock.

I'd have to give my vote to either the Chinook, or most likely the ATR or the Para Military. Don't discount the nested compression lock knives like the DODO though. They appear to be quite strong also.

I would vote for the Military. Next the Manix...

I would say it is the Chinook II. I recall Mr. Blonde saying that not too long ago that when he was in Spyderheaven, Golden Colorado, they were testing locks in a machine and while the Manix resisted a lot, the machine "jumped" off the floor when the Chinook II lock breaked...

That, my friend, is a strong lock...

I would have to agree with Vincent. The liner lock isn't very strong. We seem to be focusing on the locking system, but a knife is "strong" in other areas too. Like blade design, material, and the pivot. I am going to say that the SS ATR is the strongest folder. The steel is stronger than the Golden models. It also has the compression lock and steel handles.

Strongest folder - I guess we are talking about the strongest lock.
Military IS NOT. Although a heavy duty, numbers as Vincent said, it does not reach the MBC rating.
Manix and Chinook should be the same - simply, the lock is the SAME.
On general grounds, as Ed said, the compression lock is the strongest. Li' T, Gunting and ATR should be in the same category.
ParaM, being lighter, is a heavy duty, IIRC.

A sprint run, BG-42 Lil' T with integral compression lock (Sal just anounced), would be IMO the strongest one.

IMO, the Lil Temp is by far the toughest Spyderco folder..

I'm still praying at night that they do not become FRN Lil' Temps, in the future. :o

I'll toss my Rescue into the mix. It gets tons of use by many EMT's/firemen around the world on a daily basis (if that counts for anything). If it weren't tough it would not have this following of folks who use it for work. It has an FRN handle, VG-10 blade, great big spyder hole, and a spyderedge from here to eternity! This puppy cuts!

I think the LIL'T is the strongest folder of the line, Compression lock is the one! :)

the shorter the blade in comparison with the handle, the more weight the blade could hold (torque). lil temp has the shortest blade, so it makes sense that it can hold the most weight if it's lock is similar to the others.
