Hi Sinbad, I am sorry you dislike your Manix. While many people here seem to be perfectly satisfied with it, I can understand you as I'm a perfectionist myself. There are spydies I love, spidies I like and a couple ones that just don't hit the spot. My appreciation for Spyderco doesn't diminishes because of this.
What's wrong with a lockback, anyway? They made the Chinook with a lockback and it seems to work fine. I mean, the Chinook is a few years old and people still buys it
Nobody sais the Manix is perfect. I live under the impression that Sal himself would have a couple grunts regarding the Manix and some ideas to improve it. I heard him once that he'd change the Military  in order to make it better (and lighter), although no one complains about the Military (not talking about manufacturing flaws here, but the concept).

to be truthfull, i find this thread completely ridiculous....
Sinbad, every so called improvment you've been offering is just one you'll fancy & not really make the knife better, you think Ti will make it better? i think that if it were made with Ti the chance for me getting it would drop to 0% so is ti an improvment? no
the perfect knife can only exist for one man, everyone have their likes & dislikes & when you buy a knife you settle between how perfect it is to you & between how much it costs.
if you want the closest possible to perfect in your eyes, by all means, take $2500, find a good custom maker & sit next to him at every step from the drawing board until the knife is ready.
if you want to improve on the manix on ATR, find flaws, not personal dislikes..
you don't like the long handle, i do, for me an improvement is to make the handle longer, you don't like the blade finish, someone else does & actually, a lot of people like it just the way it is which is the reason they buy it.
you've questioned the lockback? why? do you have any experience making locks yourself? do you have any source of information as to what's wrong with it? would changing the lock really be an improvement or will it again just be your personal taste?
you claim spyderco tried to build an overbuilt tank, really? because i have never seen Sal or anyone at spyderco say that, to me it seems they were trying to make a knife that's a bit beefier for people who demand more from a knife or need more from it but cannot comfortably carry a fixed blade, seems like it worked also.
so please, stop passing such judgement on the knives & company....

As for my take on the manix, I see its only weakness really being the pivot.
Perhapse your hands are small sinbad, but for me it really melts into my hand without hurting or anything. While 3D handles may be nice, I really dont find them that appealing. The manix is very comfortable for me as is. The lockback is an excelent lock for this knife in my opinion. A liner or frame lock is decent, but the lockback is tried and true, also, its a very strong lock. Sure there might be play, but SO WHAT. We like to be anal about what we spend money on, but a folder is a folder, and I trust a playful lockback over a liner lock. Understanding how both locks work, it just makes sense. The lockback drops a pice of metal into a gap, basically that metal has to come up, but there is no way for it to come up. Pins would sheer long before disengagement. Liners on the other hand, operate along a ramp.
Theoretically I trust a lockback more. I have very little liner lock experience though.
Sinbad, I would recomend that instead of challenging us to give up our evil spyderco worshiping ways, you bring out your issues in a form of constructive criticism from your first post, rather than deciding your better than us because you dont like your knife and trying to make a big deal out of it.

He's had chances and proves himself to be a troll every time. Personally, I don't think a troll is worthy of being given another "chance" just because he signs into the Forum under a new identity or starts a new post. Every time a troll is given another "chance" it just encourages him to continue his insulting, disruptive behavior. At least that's my opinion.

No apology is necessary. I was just trying to put things in context.

There still might be the Bison one day of course. For those who believe the Manix is just a toy. Not as 'impressive' as the one Vincent showed but a really big one alright.

There is 0 need for a folder that big.
What is the point of it.

Vincent,
I once posted at BF that I thought it was out of folder range but some disagreed with me and claimed to have need for a folder that size. I still believe that I would rather prefer fixed if I wanted a knife that size but I wouldn't mind seeing it going in production anyway.
