ive been using my s110v manix and pm2 at work cutting some cardboard and cutting tape and unfortunately for the manix ive been reaching more for my pm2. the manix is a nice knife dont get me wrong. i like the s110v better than the s30v but the handle material on the manix just doesnt feel right to me. the frn on the manix feels different than the frn on my endura. i do really like how comfy the manix is to hold though. the other thing i dont like is the lock. i have smaller hands and its kind of hard for me to unlock it one handed. thats a problem for me because at work i usually have a box in one arm and a knife in the other hand and on the move to go stock the shelf. so one handed closing is important. i think this manix may unfortunatly go up for sale or trade for something else with a compression lock.

I'm loving mine! Who knew that FRN would feel exactly like the FRCP of the previous LW? For some reason I was thinking it would be softer.

Here's a question, can this FRN be sanded or will sanding ruin the color? I was thinking about blending the back of the handle a little better.

Doing so would probably give the back a smoother finish, but it would be hard to replicate the exact color and finish of the handle outside the area you sanded leaving you with a smooth but contrasting handle. Unless you knew exactly how to keep the finish after sanding the back, I wouldn't do it.

I have bought from some online dealers but not all of them. Just for grins: as of 5:40 pm central time... here is exactly what each website says:
KW- preorder only
CS- backorder
BHQ- out of stock
GP- out of stock
KC- available for preorder
HKS- out of stock

So I guess we wait a little longer.

I call Complete BS. You're getting "jumped on" because people notice how ridiculous this is getting. I saw that you logged on this thread when I posted this...

It's causing quite a buzz and it is selling well off the gate a mere two weeks from release. If you really want one you can easily get one though. Should get even easier when the smoke settles.

I highly recommend a Techno. When I've used it in a similar fashion to what you've described, it has been absolutely ideal. The blade is on the smaller side but it's easy to control and easy to open and close quickly. I find it much more natural to manipulate than a compression lock. I would like to see the plastic tabs on the lock replaced with metal on the Manix at some point because they are not all that comfortable to use.

Not complete...

I withdrew my comments because I realized that I was posting out of my own frustration and my posts were not in keeping with Spyderco's desired tone for these forums. I've tried to make my subsequent posts more constructive.

I have stated that I would like to support KW if possible. Maybe they had more preorders to fill than everybody else. Whatever, I'm trying to be patient and stay positive and constructive.

Doesn't the color go all the way through the material? If you grind/sand on it you will change the appearance because you will change the texture on the surface of the material. If you sanded with finer and finer grits and finished with some form of polishing compound you could theoretically get closer to the original look. Seems that if you are bothered by the shape because you are using the knife a lot, it shouldn't matter as much how the knife looks. I was making a batch of chili for my office so I decided to cube the 5 lbs of meat with one of my Mules, with the naked blade tang and sharp edges. I did get a blister on the side of my first finger due to how I was holding the knife, but that was a lot of use. If this is happening to you with the M2 then it wouldn't hurt to try sanding it down a little bit.

If you sand any kind of plastic or polymer, say g10 for example it will take upon a duller look. Of course you can try to continually sand it to finer grits and attempt to attain the original look, but I honestly doubt you will be able to do so without many attempts. Unless you would prefer tactile qualities over visual qualities (and the manix 2 handle is already plenty comfortable) doing as such is very risky.

These will become more available once the initial frenzy dies down. KW is a solid dealer, I'm also waiting for my preorder from them, and after that the 2 weeks shipping to South Africa.

I actually like the XL better, but the featherweight is a pretty good deal for the money. I was fumbling the knife the first couple of days because it was so light there just wasn't enough inertia there. Took a little getting used to. Check out the color change on the handle as the light bar on the scanner crawls over the bidirection texturing. Color's a little different on the angle of reflection.

That XL in CF is surprisingly light also :) Great knife. A little wide for my everyday but in actual use, it runs circles around knives its size.

So who's expecting there Manix s110v today ?
Still can't get mine out of my pocket :D Love this Spydie it's so light but feels great in the hand . What's cool is no matter what your wearing be it shorts or sweats you can't even tell it's there . I decided to throw a Lanyard on my other lightweight Manix 2 trans blue and ordered another for my Drk blue s110v so I'm able to tell it's still in my pocket lol .

Yes, of course. G10 would get dull if you start sanding on it, but then it can be polished too such as the scales of the Vallotton are. I don't know how much you can polish the FRN, it seems to be a bit more "rubbery" than G10. I have a Byrd with their normal FRN scales, something like that could be used as a guinea pig for some sanding attempts. The Byrd and also my Delica have sort of a matte finish to start with so maybe sanding with 600 grit or finer wouldn't be all that much different from the original finish.

Looking at shunsui's photo I notice that there is a thin line of surface border around the textured sides. If you try to round off the edges of the scales very much you would grind all the way through this edge. My Byrd is the same way. The border is bigger on the Delica plus the Delica is already rounded a little bit.

I just received mine today, and I'm very happy. I liked the original version but really wanted one with a better steel, and this will be an interesting experiment in playing with S110V!
