Re: perennial favorite: The Spyderco Brouwer

It’s a favourite of mine, and now sporting a CF flytanium scale and Lynch NW clip it’s appreciably lighter than stock.

It's one of my favorite Spydercos ever (but admittedly, that's probably a lengthy list). I can carry it for months on end. It's about the right size for a small pocket knife, yet significantly sturdier than anything I've carried in decades past.
It's fantastic both in the pocket and in the hand. Complaints about the clip were widely exaggerated as the CQI version relocated the clip as close to the end of the knife as it could reasonably go. Plus, there are gobs of Spyderfans who simply must swap the clip on every knife they buy. Most of the negative knifetuber "reviews" were of the pre-CQI version. With the original clip, it's perfect in a fifth pocket (regardless of CQI or not).
It cuts extremely well, curiously well given how sturdy the tip is. It's a very public friendly size and has a very public friendly blade shape.
A lot of folks may see it as a small knife with a big handle. Blade to handle ratio snobs were probably not impressed. The handle is big enough for most hands and the blade is big enough for most everyday kind of jobs. It just works.
The Brouwer would make a great sprint run or knife shop exclusive. I'd really like to see someone do one in Cruwear or S90V. The G-10 front side scale could allow for different colors for shops that like to have a color and steel pattern for their exclusives. A carbon fiber S90V sprint or a Crucarta version would be epic!
This post is inspired by my first couple of knives from the company who invented the lock used by the Brouwer. I do like them, but I honestly think I'd rather have an upgraded Brouwer instead.
However, if it never comes back, I'll continue to enjoy the four Brouwers I have accumulated and they'll still be fantastic. And yes, it's quite ridiculous that I ended up with four, but none of them are going anywhere.![]()

Each one of the Brouwers that I use has a different front side scale and a different clip, so I wouldn't consider them identical exactly.
I wanted to buy brouwer again))cjk wrote: ↑Fri Sep 19, 2025 7:19 amEach one of the Brouwers that I use has a different front side scale and a different clip, so I wouldn't consider them identical exactly.
I'm actually not counting a "parts knife" or a "new in box" backup I keep in storage, so you might say I have six.
I bought two of them new. For a period of time, it seemed like I was a Brouwer magnet. They just inexplicably kept coming in my direction. I might have had as many as 8 or 9 at one time.
The only ones I intentionally sought out were the two new ones I bought and a pre-CQI one just because I wanted to see the changes first hand.

Most def. Mine already has carbon fiber. I love this little thing. It's a bit "thick' for the use I have of it but it's not a bad deal to have it a little thicker without getting a bad geometry eitherPaul Ardbeg wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 1:14 amWould love to see a S90v version of the brouwer and make the show side carbon fiber.

Looks good Robin! I also would prefer a thinner blade, but this being full flat cuts pretty good. Not a super slicer like the ChapRamonade wrote: ↑Sat Sep 27, 2025 5:27 amMost def. I've refinished these scales since then, Flytanium had already stopped making them and they were flawed upon reception.
The Brouwer is much better than the Chap for larger hands, though.Paul Ardbeg wrote: ↑Sat Sep 27, 2025 5:46 amLooks good Robin! Absolutely, the finger choil makes all the difference on the Brouwer.ChrisinHove wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 2:16 pmThe Brouwer is much better than the Chap for larger hands, though.Paul Ardbeg wrote: ↑Sat Sep 27, 2025 5:46 amLooks good Robin!
