If there is no Military 2 because it's just a Paramilitary 2 XL - then there is no Military Model because it's just a Paramilitary XL.
No Millie 2 = No Millie. They're all just Paramilitary's.
When I got my first Military 2 I had the idea of having it engraved with "I'm a Military 2 but I identify as a Para 2 XL" but honestly I just forgot to do it during checkout and it's still on the table and I'd just laugh and laugh every time I use it

that really tickled me!

Very cool! I have had one for years and I used to carry it quite a bit. It is amazing how much more refined the designs are now.

Maybe someday that'll be the forum opinion of the Military 2.
It's funny how much more controversy there was changing the Military than there was changing the Paramilitary.
They both went through mostly identical changes. One was hailed as the second coming of jesus by just about everyone here......while years after release many are still salty about the Military 2.

Actually I was a Paramilitary 1 loyalist in the beginning, until I got a Para 2 in my hand, just like with the Military 2. I remember people claiming it was all hype too.
Tweaking the shape is one thing but changing a lock is too much change for some people, and the uproar would be the same if they brought out a Para 2 with a liner lock. Some would rejoice but I think most wouldn't.
I guess I'm lucky to like both lock types so I just see it more as a pros and cons thing and for me it just about cancels itself out because I like every other change they made regardless of the lock type. If they made the changes to the choil and clip positions and such but kept it as a liner lock I'd still be calling it a win.

Just as
@Evil D says:
Changing the lock from liner- to comp.lock of course makes for the biggest difference between M1 and M2... and funny here is that this is exactly what many of those (no doubt the majority!) who happen to prefer the comp.lock
actually say themselves and describe it as one of the main reasons why they prefer the M2...
...so they admit the pretty substantial difference the locktypes make for and how they now prefer the M2s ergos and operability, but somehow have a hard time to see that this undisputed
difference just might be perceived the other way round by some others... it's no badmouthing of the M2, I am really glad for all of those who love it and for the success it obviously is...but coming from a lot of real experience and like some others here I just know that a great linerlock like the M1s works better for me in operation, ergos and safety than any comp.lock I know off could.
To ignore that this change in locktype did not happen from PM1 to PM2 is a bit strange to me.
And also somehow said often but seemingly never really heard:
No one is "salty" bout the Millie 2...some just are afraid that
generally one of the last high quality linerlock Spydies will eventually fade out, while there already is a good choice of comp.locks.
David says it perfectly: What if they cqi - ed the PM2 or Shaman into a linerlock?
Wouldn't people see this as a substantial change?
/ Besides that: Just from the pics the change in choil shape is more substantial from M1 to M2 than it is from PM 1 to PM 2..?
The PM 1 already has an a bit more "rounded" choil and not that great, flat Millie 1 type choil - to me one of the best I ever used.

I guess I just don't get why the lock change is so controversial. They're both lightweight detent based locks, biggest difference is the comp lock is easier to close without putting your hand in the path of the blade.
In the end though, I was right. Even here, where the changes were considered more controversial than on other knife web forums, we're seeing
a lot more military 2's in the "what's in your pocket?" thread than 1's, just as I predicted.
Given 5 more years I expect the ratio of M2 photos to M1 photos to align with the ratio of para 2 vs para 1 photos we see.

I had a CPM D2 Para 1 for a while. It would be nice to have a sprint in something similar to test out or if there is a modern steel that's similar to CPM D2, that could be good, too.

I like that idea. I carried and used the **** out of a CPMD2 Military for 6 years, and have nothing but good things to say about the steel.

I think there was a user named
@Zenith who did some work around a farm and had a CPM D2 knife that he used the heck out of. Definitely seems like a workhorse.

I like tip down and the original military clip. I also like partial liners and the subtle choil. My main issue with the Para1 was the blade size. The proportions just felt off and the Para2 fixed that.
The original Military didnβt have that problem so the jump to the Military2 is kind of neutral for me. I carry the Crucarta Military2 a lot and itβs great but I still also carry some of my originals as well. In the end Iβve moved past the argument because I am enamored with the StretchXL.
