Ran into this recently myself, made a thread about it as I didn't know this one existed. Good information here; I figured it actually wasn't the bearing because the Manix 2 has been using them for so long in general, but maybe the issue is older than I thought given this thread is from August. My personal Salt model was such that even when I switched out of the AWT scales and back into the FRN, it was still able to catch my fingerif I ran it past there with a bit of pressure (less than I think would happen when randomly just reaching for your knife in your pocket).
I will say that based on my conversation with AWT about it, they seem to be working on an update for their Manix 2 LW scales that I guess will make the end of the handle a bit higher so that they can cover more variance in closed depth. At this point I'm going to wait until AWT lets me know those are available; I think AWT's scales are such an improvement I don't really want to carry a Manix 2 without them.

Just bumping this to say I received my Manix 2 Salt from KnivesPlus today, which has the very first iteration of AWT's updated Manix 2 LW scales that help correct this unsafe tip issue. They are also now updated to the "aggressive" milling that has more grip than before:
Here's the redesigned tip area that allows this to seat ever so slightly deeper:
I also have to say, this came modded from KnivesPlus' mod team, and it honestly might be the best example of a Manix 2 I've ever seen. Perfect centering, perfect action, no lock stick, no blade play whatsoever, great bevels... they really do a good job checking the knife up before sending it out.

Yeah, this is currently the only place you can get the updated scales. AWT isn't selling them on their own site yet.

@matthewkuhl Just to be clear you mean on the cage itself, not on the backspacer?
The cage is the plastic part the ball sits in. The backspacer is the lanyard barrel. The ball guide is what you have to modify. There is a groove in it the ball bearing rides in - this is what youy have to grind to allow the ball to ride higher and allow for full engagement in the lock position. It doesn't improve tip float, unfortunately; the tip will still poke out when the knife is folded.
