I have a Delica 4, that I like, but the FRN scales simply don't fit my hand well. Its a great knife, It just doesn't feel secure in my hand. I'm not sure its the size as the Tasman's handle is about the same size, and it fits my hand like a glove. Its gotta be the shape. Any way, I know what you mean about the feel of the handle.

I love the tenacious but all my spydercos would probably be considered budget knive by the knife snobs. I'm just hoping for that second run of green tenacious's that's got me excited.

I'm Probably in the same boat. I consider myself an avid knife guy, but there are those who no doubt are further into their fetish than me. Which is to say they'd think my knives are budget blades too.

By the way, thanks for the recommendation on Shepard CC. I sent my Karahawk to him for some custom scales. Pretty confident he'll return my Karahawk with some excellent scales. Thanks again

How about the G10 or FRN Byrd line, CaraCara and MLark in particular? They are worth a look, great bang for the buck like the Tenacious line.

Hi Chuck,
Our Chinese makers seem to have 8Cr processing down well. We didn't do as well with 9Cr or BD1 (so far). I'm a 52100 guy (that's all I've ever forged) and I know the heat treat must be just right for the performance to be there. I don't think I could guarantee the heat treat of 52100 in a Tenacious.

I purchased my 1st Spyderco almost exactly a year ago (right after Christmas 2012), a blue Persistence. I was so impressed that within a few weeks I also had a Chaparral and a PM2. I'm now up to 9, with a pre-order in for number 10 (super blue Stretch). Through no fault of it's own, the Persistence has been collecting dust...
I think this thread just spurred me to dig it out though!

Thanks for the reply Mr. Glesser. A bit disappointing but there's a few other spydies that you and the crew do really well and I'm happy with them anyway. :D

Love my persistence. Enough that I asked my wife for a tenacious for Xmas. The steel is mesiocre and needs sharpened often under constant use but I'm ok with that. The ergos are great, the blade is super slicey, and I like the looks. It looks pricier and more gentlemanly than my endura wave or pacific salt so it has a role in my small collection of users. I use mine for long periods of time making walking sticks, etc and it is very comfortable.

If the OP is referring to the Byrd line, there is a whole sub-forum dedicated to them. If he's talking about the Tenacious family, a quick search will reveal tons of threads with plenty of love for them. Just learn to use the search function and you'll see plenty of appreciation.

The Tenacious is an unsung hero in my book...
The liner lock, the blade profile, the lack of a choil to have a lot of blade in a not-so long blade length... :)
In VG10, it would be my EDC a lot more than it is right now...
I appreciate that the costs would rise, as a different maker would be involved...but them's the break...
I have a blade profile cut out in VG10 waiting for me to grind for my Tenacious...
The 8Crsteel as-is is good enough my EDC uses, but I just want a VG10 blade...just because... :D

Tenacious is my first, cheapest, most used and has best handle for my hand. Design is great, comfy, solid, no blade play at all even after some really hard work. Steel is not great but fine. I think some people not like it because of steel and atypical (for Spyderco) design. I don't feel much difference in quality compared to some Japan made Spyderco knives for example.
I love Tenacious. In May of this year it was my first Spyderco, now I have 11...
Also I have blue Persistence, it is has a bit less smooth opening but still a great knife.

Hi Sal,
Any other less than stainless candidates, for a sprint perhaps? It seems the past Tenacious/Persistence limited runs sold dang fast.

The Cara Cara G10 will probably be my next Byrd knife!

8Cr13MoV steel does not do very well in my part of the world - I have seen some bug knives starting to rust in shop display cases so will stay away from this steel for the time being.

Like the Bug, Honeybee and Grasshopper? Those are 3Cr and of so likely rusting because of poor handling and storing.
I'm pretty sure those who get even 8Cr to rust could rot anything. It's pretty dang stainless compared to the snobby stuff.

^^^ I would assume the price would go up ,just go to another choice once the price is pushed up? Keep my tenatious in truck for a quick go to and it gets lots use. Can't go wrong for the price point IMHO.
Merry Xmas all !!
