Love it,
just love big knives.
I have two with a third on the way :D

I like mine a lot, I wish I could change a few things, but its the only big, tip down ( the ONLY way to be carried) liner lock made by Spyderco.

I once carried tip up, but after needing 21 stitches caused by a blade being partially opened when I reached for it, I will never carry tip Up again.

"Military, Love it or hate it?" My anwer would have to be yes.

• It's too big for my pocket - yet it rides there almost every day.
• It's too big for my hand - yet it balances beautifully so that I hardly notice its size when using it.
• It's a liner lock - but it feels secure, and both opens and closes faster than anything else I have.
• It's tip-down carry only - but it deploys extremely fast with a Spyderdrop from that position.

Mine is a D2, bought primarily for the steel. I never expected it to become my EDC, bumping my Caly3 out of its home pocket. Trying the Millie for just a couple of days, however, I found it very difficult to set aside for something else.

There's no danger carrying tip up as long as you make sure that the opening side of your knife is blocked by the edge of your pocket.

The Military is one of those knives that Spyderco makes that I have absolutely no use for...

...but still have a burning desire to get! :D


I'm looking forward to the Military 2 with the mysterious "Stop Lock". :cool:

I used to think they were too big, like some others do. I fell in love with the Foliage Green D2 Millie, and I've bought two more millies since then.

I like the simplicity of the Military. It's got a great blade, and it's very light for a knife of it's size.

I like the way it looks,but it's to large to get much use from me.

now..... the paramilitary in foliage green,thats another story.

Don't buy one, because then you will want to buy another one. That what happened to me. I have bought alot of knives, but always come back to the military. They are not perfect, will almost, but they do alot of jobs real good. Good steel, light weight, locks real solid. What not to like? Great knife!

Best knife Spyderco makes IMO.
Nothing I do not like about it,there are a couple things I would prefer like tip up carry and a ti frame lock.

actually, I enjoy backpacking & outdoor activities and I think orange would be perfect for spotting the knife if you drop it on the ground or in higher grass

also, it may look a little bit 'sheeple friendly' that way

I was Ho Hum about the knife untill the BG42 Carbon fibre sprint run was produced. I still think it's a true classic and one of the finest production knives ever made at any price. The Millie is one of Spyderco's flagship models and as such keeps on getting better and better, has sprints just for us steel junkies, and they keep the quality very high on it.

It's design makes it feel less large than it would seem, and it's a cutting machine. Likewise it's not a scraping, prying model. It's ergos are great for me, probably beaten out only by the Stretch 2, and new G10 Endura.

I am a bit in dubio about getting one. I like its look very much. However living in a Urban environment it is a bit too much knive for edc-ing . I like the D2 FG one a lot and the cf bg42. If i get one its a hard choice between these 2.

On the other hand i am waiting for the D2 FG para-milies to come out. Now that one is sure on my wantlist.

I had the knife in my pocket, handle forward, blade to the rear, as it came. I reached in for some change in the same pocket and opened a 21 stitch cut in my index finger. I was not thinking and just slid my hand in like I had a thousand times before, but with the Native instead of my usual knife. I was spritzing blood out my finger tip like Dan Akroyd playing Julia Child.

i quit carrying my CF one because i put a huge gash in my leg...only tip up for me for now on..to each his own :) . i will definitely buy another one for an EDC as soon as the new model with the ambidextous clip comes out. it is a great cutter and very light in the pocket.

Since everybody is talking about the FG CPM-D2 and the CF BG-42 Millie, and cause I own both, I thought I'd throw in some old shots :)

I love both of them, and a 2nd D2 should be in the mail, hopefully later today :o













They're just great knives, and if i had to choose a first Millie (and plan to use it), I'd jump on the FG CPM-D2 because you can get them cheaper than dirt right now :D


The D-2's fit&finish is just as good as the CF one, and if you don't mind the "cheaper" G-10 (even if it's in FG), then you just can't go wrong.

:spyder: :spyder: :cool: :spyder: :spyder: I have one with cf, and I love it; As many have said, it's one of Spyderco's finest icons, and like any other, there is no other that compares to Spyderco :D I don't carry this monster because it is so big :eek: :eek: , and it is not left hand clipped. I take it out quite often, and mess with it-use it for food prep, and I might add it massicures cardboard like nothin. P.S...Forgive my ignorance, but to whoever implied about info on the Chinook3, it kicks@$$ :eek: If you don't have one, GET ONE!

waay too big for me, much more knife than i need.... but I have "several"
it feels great in my small hand....almost "perfect" in a forward grip (i feel the same of the Endura4's handle) and with multiple "supersteel" options and a linerlock that is just as yablanowitz describes.... it is one of the must have Spyderco's imho... the CF BG42 version is what really hooked me to the Millie... still my favorite version :cool: and too many other new flavors of clipits to buy ... so the S90V version will have to wait....
