I haven't got around to it yet but I plan to grind down a wee bit of the lock bar in that spot. I don't think it'll compromise strength, at least not on a knife I don't plan on using hard anyway.

If anyone is interested, it looks like the original VG10 C3 got an update. it now has screw construction instead of pins.

I’ve wanted one of these since they came out, but could never bring myself to pull the trigger based on high price and reports of the lockbar impacting the blade’s edge. When I saw the “crazy deal” posted at American Edge, I bit, figuring it was worth the risk at $139.99.

My Cruwear Centofante III arrived yesterday.. right out of the box there is a ~ 3/16 inch flat spot on the edge from the blade contacting the lockbar. Didn’t even get the chance to eff it up myself haha. This is.. well, pretty ugly imo, no two ways about it.. on a knife Spyderco thinks is worth $350 (msrp), for which dealers are charging $262.50, it’s not a problem that should exist.

“Oh, but how does it cut?!” 94% of the blade cuts like an outright laser beam.

“Oh that’ll sharpen out Rick, quit complaining!” Yep, it will. Shouldn’t have to.

For what I paid, I’ll gladly stick the knife in my pocket, cut stuff with it, sharpen as needed & repeat. I’m not even all that mad about it. Other than its bald spot, my Centofante is quite a nice example.. I feel I may have actually lucked-out with even grinds/edge bevels, deformity-free carbon fiber, and near-perfect centering; build quality characteristics for which Seki-City sometimes seems to adopt a “two out of three ain’t bad” policy..

So yes, worth the risk for me and still a great deal at $139.99. Had I paid $262.50… different story entirely. Anyways.. Just a data point for the thread and the opinions (musings? ramblings?) of a humble accumulator of knives, who finds himself more and more discerning as cutlery costs continue to rise..

Thanks for re-mentioning this deal, I think I just snagged the last one they had. Probably the one everyone else has returned lmao.

Any idea why they had theirs marked down so much lower than the other dealer specials on this one?
