Got mine, so impressive.

The edge bevels looked very small, to my delight it appears that these were made extra thin behind the edge.

The cutting edge grinding was also minimal, almost zero material removed when putting the final edge on. Compared to examples from years ago, when there was sometimes a lot of unnecessary material removed, these new ones are very excellent.

For $140, as light and secure and perfectly designed as these are, get them while you can. I'm picking up an extra or two - the only thing better would be black handles and magnacut.

For anyone concerned about the handle material, yeah it's not a 'premium' material but whatever these are made out of is incredibly light, strong (dropped my other one from 5' up onto tile and it just bounced, no chunks missing or cracks or any damage), and soft to the touch while being very hard (not squishy like some rubber handles). I prefer this material to any other, honestly, and especially like that the steel tang is not exposed to my corrosive sweat.

Great job Spyderco, thanks again for bringing these back in this steel/color combo. Again, it's rare to find a fixed blade that is adequate for utilitarian tasks as well as for Kali drills. I've never had such a great "do almost everything" fixed blade.

SE is currently 15% off at ChicagoKnifeWorks with the coupon that shows on the product page (PE not yet in stock). Just ordered one to go with my PE.

And NCBlade has the PE at $133.

People should buy these knives - the OG Temperance is a classic!

Bring back the Street Bowie in a new steel too!

I just got my full SE version of the Cruwear TEMP 1 and I'm just awestruck!! And do keep in mind that it's been my favorite Spyderco fixed blade since the first VG-10 edition was released around 2004 or thereabout. At the risk of being a bit redundant I still say that it is one design that Mr. Glesser truly got perfect right out of the gate.

I started a thread wanting to see this near perfect design in the Salt Series. I'm anxious to see how many fans chime in on that one. It could be the very last outdoor fixed blade I might ever buy. No need for another one when the one you got is already perfect.

Newer and better blade steels are the only improvement needed for this great GOLDEN ERA model. My 2 cents.

JD, you got on my radar with the Ayoob campaign. As I followed that thread for a year or so, I was just beginning my hobby of knives so didnt know much. You kept talking about the Golden Era (GE) and how great it was, but this didnt really mean anything to a noob like me.

Well now that I'm an intermediate knife nerd, I 100% agree that the Golden Era was a special time in the Spyderco arc, and tons of models should get a reboot in modern PM steel. The Ayoob and Temperance serrated are my 2 favorite knives. the Moki serrations in cruwear are just perfect.

The GE Reboots were extremely unique, often designs from outside knife makers. These are SOOOO much more interesting than another PMx/Manix/etc variant. (the only variants I want are unobtanium and apparently forever will be like the REC PM2 or Blacked out Tanto. Sure would be nice if they would re-release the most desirable models). Standard production in a new color/steel isnt that interesting at the standard $200+ price points that have become the new norm.

I mentioned that the Golden Era knives were the most interesting models to me and Sal asked what I meant by GE. I didnt respond because I am not too familiar with the exact time frame you refer to, but it may be worth making a dedicated Golden Era post outlining the timeframe, some notable models, and what makes them unique/desirable. It may help get more GE models rebooted in the future

Anyways, thanks for your advocacy of GE knife reboots, and I encourage you to make a dedicated GE history and 'hopefully in the future' thread to keep the momentum behind reboots like these.

The Spyderco Golden Era was 2010-2020. It's different depending who you ask though.

I always interpreted the golden era as like when spyderco were coming out with a lot of unique collaboration designs and new innovative in house designs typically made in the Moki factory, and a lot of them having a golden bug logo, either on the clip or blade.
that era was around 97’-2010 I feel like

Well there certainly is a case to be made for that particular time slot. But my personal favorites were mostly released between 1998 to 2004. Many of the collaborations from that time slot were priceless IMO. And when any of those go up for sale and/or auction they seem to command lofty prices.

But I'll admit that there were a lot of models from 2010 to 2013 that I do dearly adore. The Jason Breeden collaborations were certainly intriguing. Also Golden Era models reborn with Cruwear sure seem to be demanding a great deal of respect recently.

The TEMP 1 fixed blade was perfect from the get go even in the original VG-10 blades. And with The new Cruwear Sprint Run it's like a completely new model in some respects.

Just got the PE for nostalgia mainly, as I owned the original back in 2006 or thereabouts. These are well done. The fit in the sheath is snug with no rattle. Seems perfect. Someone else said the edge bevel is small which is true but that's because the angle is steep. I wouldn't call it thinly ground. It's robust. I would have preferred a thinner grind.

Got the PE Temperance earlier this week & threw it into my trail maintenance pack, I had to clear some trail hazards after we had another windstorm.

I used the SE version during my last trail maintenance session, mostly for delimbing conifer saplings & it excelled at that task (especially considering that it was designed primarily as a fighting knife). The PE version worked almost as well as the SE at this task: the combination of the single bevel and serrations makes the latter more efficient at cutting through fibrous & springy green wood in the <2" diameter range, I found.

In a previous post, I mentioned that the Temperance won't be replacing the Schempp Rock as my primary trail maintenance belt knife... it still won't, but after using both the PE & SE in that role, I think I will be using them as a smaller, lighter option, on days when I don't think I need the Schempp Rock's extra length & chopping ability (I think the Schempp Rock pairs better with a hatchet/axe, while the Temp will pair better with a nata)

If Spyderco ever had another fixed blade model with a more perfect grip handle I would sure like to know about it.

This is one model if it were available for a test drive prior to purchase I believe that they would sell out very quickly. Until I got my hands on my first TEMP 1 I sort of ignored them.

I sure hope they are a super success for the company. Because I know in my gut that they would be perfect for a Salt Series edition later down the road. Well Mr. Glesser I'll sure keep my fingers crossed even if it is a long shot.

JD, between the Ayoob and now the Temperance, im 100% in your same vein of knives.

I've been carrying mine on several days of camping lately and man this is a great outdoors knife.
The serrated version cuts right through whatever junk I throw at it. Works nice for food prep. The sheath is very secure. Cruwear is holding up great. Handle is very comfortable and secure with or without gloves.

I was extra glad I had it one night - I was hiking in to a nearby back country camp spot around 7:00 an hour after dusk. I looked over my shoulder and 2 sets of eyes were watching me from the brush line 20 yards up the hill, probably a cougar or coyote based on what's in my area. Luckily they exercised some 'temperance' and just quietly watched as I passed :)

We need some DLC coated cruwear just like the PD1's (though I know thats TiCN). This knife in Cruwear + DLC would be essentially fully stainless and make for an even more exceptional outdoor knife. (In general, Im a big fan of DLC and hope to see it on any non-stainless steel, or even stainless too)

This knife is a great deal at $140 and there will probably be some black friday deals this week. If you're on the fence, get it!

Greetings "Spyderwebs: I can't begin to tell you how nice it is to hear that you've gotten to embrace both the C-60 Ayoob and the Cruwear fixed blade TEMPERANCE models. Both of those models will sell themselves if people will test drive them like you obviously did.

I'm not just merely sentimental about several of the models from the GOLDEN ERA because I've used many of them extensively. Like I've told Mr. Glesser in the past>> there are some of these GOLDEN ERA models that were perfect from their inception as you have discovered. I'm really glad you got acquainted with both of those super classic models. Also both of those models are equally as good in SE and PE both. They are both truly very functional designs. I do hope they consider doing a SALT SERIES version of the TEMP 1. That model would be perfect for the Salt Series line up.
