I love the lockback, but I think the IKC outside of here seem to feel it's dated.
I think this is true, but there could be a "maturity" factor involved.
I don't think this is the case at all. Most companies are not producing new designs with backlocks. I don't think most customers want them and they're expensive to do well. The liner lock is the default lock for most companies and customers. Despite a few people warning about liner/frame locks being dangerous, surprisingly few thumbs have been maimed over the decades since liner locks took over.
Personally I think liner locks are boring and I think compression locks are just liner locks with extra steps (Rick and Morty reference). In generally I don't really care about locks that much, they all do the same job.
But I agree with Carrot, nobody out there is really asking for more back locks.

I feel that left-handed knife users and folks that don't like folders accidentally opening in their pockets or waistband may be asking for more backlocks.

I only buy lock backs (until OTFs are legal in my state)

We do have protos of Polestar and Alcyone models in back-lock, Compression Lock and Cross bar locks.

A compression lock Polestar is alive.

Knowing that possibly the most perfect knife already exists as a prototype in Sal's possession makes me incredibly jealous.

This is an amazing fact that is like a dream come true. Wow!
I want a Back Lock and a Cross Bar Lock version!
WOW!

Maybe a stretch but if there are multiple viable prototypes floating around, is there interest/opportunity for a Sage-like series with differeny lock types?
Lower cost, plus handle forward is a unique twist on the Sage concept.

Imo a great proposal!
This is nothing at all against the Sage series (really cool platform!), but for those of us who just happen to generally prefer more cutting edge a Polestar series displaying various lock types would be nice.
US made and edge all the way to the handle would be distinguishing factors too...
I wonder though if a backlock Polestar with the same handle length as the current linerlock Polestar could actually keep the 3.2" cutting edge length... since the Jumpers have shown that
backlock "handle forward" though it does mean edge almost all the way to the handle does not mean an actually elongated edge compared to models with choil (but rather an elongated handle).

Well, we seem to have an example of a back lock Polestar made of acrylic.

@BornIn1500 thanks for posting, otherwise I'd have missed this. Looks like its either stretched out or slimmed down a bit vs the liner lock version.
Looks great!
