kbuzbee wrote:Sounds great, Sal. As we've discussed, I love the grip of the original. I don't really know why. It doesn't look like it would be comfortable but it sure as heck is (for me anyway). I just love that big beefy grip.

As others have indicated, staying true to the original concept is going to require maintaining some design points. Otherwise, is it REALLY a Lil'T? Or something else altogether?

The original clip, for example, was designed to facilitate spinning the knife. I don't do that and vote strongly for a Caly 3 wire clip but it does stray from the concept. And the counter side dimples were there for the same reason. Would I miss them? No.... But it was part of the reason for the design.

Also a thinner blade would be great. Make it a better slicer. But the thick blade was part of what made it the Lil'T....

And for those folks who want a longer blade, I get that, but it was designed this way. There are other knives in the line up for longer and shorter fans but I vote to keep the length functionally the same.

I'd love to see a proto, as well. I hope the big beefy nature in a little tiny knife thing is still there.

Oh, and while VG-10 is fine if it's a regular production model, can we see a sprint in something like M4??

Thanks for the request Sal. Love being part of the process.

Ken

It has been a while since I last visted this thread.

I agree with the posters who say drastic changes to the Lil'Temp results in a new model. So be it. I want a new Lil'Temp but I only want changes I approve. <giggle>

A heavily modified Lil'Temp would not be a Lil'Temp.

Make it thinner in pocket. Keep the particulate steel. If possible do some 3-D machining of the G-10 scales. A detent in the closed position is a great idea.

My Lil'Temp is my favorite knife. Please do not change it too much.

If you want the original we should plead for a sprint.

Perfecting requires taking the good and adjusting (or dropping) the bad. It's the evolutionary process.

Spyderco could just keep pushing the same bland mundane crap and we would line up. Instead they appeal to snobby AFI's who are more annoying than 4 year old children. I know this because I am one. :D

I'm a newcomer to the game but everything they have put "back on the drawing board" looks amazing. I say give them a shot and see what it looks like! Based on a brief look at statistics and probability they have a 90% change at kicking some @$$.

My own record at producing show-stopping results doesn't get anywhere near this. I'll hand over my imaginary dice. :)

I love the original Lil'T, it's an extraordinary knife. And another Spyderco that appeared way before its time, IMHO. I think a second version in FRN with (reversible) wireclip would do just fine. I'd like a bit of belly added to the blade, but that's just me. :o

Sorry, no pics until we've finalized the design and we have protos in hand, and we know that production will occur within the 6 months of showing pics.

Currently we're using a 4 way Endura/Delica clip on the models we've made.

Thank you! The wire clips are a favorite of mine but seem too "flexible" for a a bigger knife. The wire clips seem to flex and twist on a hard draw. At work I often draw fast to do a non-MBC task. The wrap, plastic, polyethyline, cardboard, and mylar live in fear of me. Not to mention my managers. <giggle>

Don’t change much!!!

I LOVE the Lil’ Temp, it’s one of my all-time favorite knives! I’m still waiting for the Ti. version; which I guess isn’t going to happen. I think that Ti. would be perfect for this model.

I do NOT want to see many changes from the original Lil’ Temp. I prefer the Lil’ Temp’s pocket-clip as it is, but I guess if some things have to be changed, I can live without it, but I am very akin to it’s original clip. I guess it could be a little thinner, but, I personally, like it the way it is – in nearly every way. There is not much that I would ask to be changed on this model. I would surely buy several of the originals if they were to come out of retirement. ;)
Same color (maybe a bit darker); same lock; same blade length & width; 14mm hole; PE & CE option (depending on sales); slightly thinner; same clip (IMO); ergo's worked perfect for me...

:spyder: PLEASE, DON’T CHANGE MUCH! :spyder:

I don't want to see a new model made out of the Lil' Temp. :(

New guy here,

I have an older version and I would love to see a "next generation." I am in agreement with others that to keep the spirit of the knife, changing it, yet without changing it will take some thought.

When you look at the current one it really is a sum of its part, vastly different yet truly spyderco. Jimping, thinner scales with inlet design, choils, lighter weight, different pocket clip, yet something new and novel, as the clip is kinda "temperance" meaning when someone says "temperance" the first things I think of are the weird lookin pocket clip, the grip, and big leaf blade. Oh, bigger spydie hole and relieve for it for better purchase.

Waiting patiently,
Dave

It is very close to perfect for what it does imho. If I could change one thing it would be a slightly more discrete clip (gray titanium would be perfect) and a 4mm full convex blade :D

I'm very happy with my cpm-440V one so I'm not desperate for a new one :p

It took me forever (1 year) to finally track down and pay premium money for a vintage Lil'Temperance in plain leaf blade with the 440V steel. I would not alter really anything to this knife as others have stated - except the blade steel should be Carpenter steel CTS-XHP or Duratech20V. Any other alteration would fundamentally alter the dynamic characteristics which make this knife so EPIC.

can't wait for lil'temperance 2

I love the Lil Temp. I have two, both blade styles. The trailing point is by far my favorite. I would prefer a thinner blade for it's compactness in my pocket. I have never broken a 3mm Spyderco blade. The Lil Temperance is part of Spyderco's heritage. Keep the heritage. Porsche's 911 still has a rear mounted flat six, still winning races, and selling a whole lot on the street.

-Foliage green standard/ CF sprint
-3" blade leaf and rhino profiles
-S35v standard/s90v sprint
-dimples
-compression lock
-spider leg pocket clip/ tip-up left and right carry

I always loved the Lil Temp. I carried 2 of them until they needed to be retired. My 2 beefs with the Original design were pivot strength and handle play. I saw after about 6 months of heavy use the pivot began to get loose and the handle could kind of get loose with it and this would lead to blade play.

I would keep the original handle and blade, which I loved, and add a stronger fatter beefier pivot screw, also add bronze washers I hated the plastic ones, and maybe make a one piece G10 handle or make the handles bolt together more solid...strengthen the frame. I stopped carrying them because the slop that would end up forming after extended use.

The Lil' Temp is still one of my top three EDC folders. I got one as soon as it was released and have carried it since. I love it. I'd go for a sprint run or a redesign. I'm sure I'd pick a couple up like I did the original Lil' Temp. An all around awesome design.

I'll bump again.

I'd never even heard of this knife until I ran across it on YouTube & somebody here mentioned something about a Temp 2 or maybe a sprint run.

Any news?
