The Retract is "sold out" on Spyderco's website. Could just be the first round of inventory listed that sold out and more will be added soon. I do not believe they add their entire inventory on at once.
It’s time to put a stop to all this. This thread was meant to be about the Retract, in fact I was expecting comments from those who are hyped for this interesting model or at least are interested in it. Move your little “war” somewhere else please. Enough said.
Roger that!

I'm excited about this model. Besides the fun shape, I'm super excited to see Spyderco using 9Cr18MoV. As I just wrote in another thread, I've been hoping to see Spyderco upgrade their budget lines from 8Cr13MoV to 9Cr18MoV for years now. If this is a test case, I really hope it goes well.

For those in the "I wish it was in better steel" camp, WE has been using 9Cr18MoV in their Civivi and Sencut knives, plus some OEM stuff for Ferrum Forge, for many years. I have lots of experience with it. It's a significant step up from 8Cr13MoV. At least with their heat treatment, edge retention is in the same general ballpark as Spyderco's VG-10. Corrosion resistance is significantly better than VG-10. The toughness is lower than 8Cr13MoV or VG-10 but it's no worse than a lot of other common blade steels, such as N690, 154CM, or BD1N.

100% agree. This thread is about how I was skeptical about the Retract actually being available on Spyderco.com and was totally right 😂

Yes, the Retract was available on Spyderco.com and has since sold out.

I would guess premier shipments and collector club knives are shipping as well.

Retract no longer available on Spyderco.com 🤔
I’m guessing they sold out of their on hand stock. Today I got a shipping notification for the order I placed yesterday.

I see your mod (it won’t quote for me), and I may be tempted to do the same depending on how much that portion bugs me. A similar protrusion bugged me so much on the techno 2 I finally gifted it to my son.

Wow, weird it sold out so fast, I figured this was kind of a niche model.

Count me in as one of the folks who are really looking forward to the Retract. While the design is obviously very reminiscent of the old Schempp Khukuri, it also reminds me a lot of Chris Knutson's Introvert, which is one of my favourite folders and a knife I used for work a lot back when I first got it and I still carry frequently as an EDC folder.

Handled the Retract today. Cool knife! Hopefully some of these pictures help you decide if you’d like to pick one up. Blade was centered, good and early lockup, a little bit of lockstick (which may be quite preferrable in the liner lock format). The detent was on the weaker side, but I like stronger detents, so YMMV. Knife felt solid. It was comfortable in both grips and that blade angle is going to be a performer!

Regarding that guard, I can now see why people are talking about shaving it down. The reverse flickers won’t like this one, because your finger hits that guard on the way around. Slow rolling was no problemo.

The real treat today was meeting Ed Schempp and talking the Retract, the Tuff, 3V, damascus, his forge, Crucible, and some of the history of the early days of S30V and clad steels, Erasteel and the future of knife steels. Thank you Ed and the Spydie crew - a total pleasure!

Received my Retract yesterday. Inital impressions-

Fit and finish is very good. Action was smooth out of the box. Lockup solid. Great detent.

Factory edge on mine was thick. No worries- reprofiled freehand last evening. Doing so made a big difference in cutting performance. No problems with the steel.

There is a slight recurve in the edge- not an issue for freehand sharpening but something to maybe consider if using a fixed angle system.

I like the design. First Schempp and first very negative blade angle knife. Will take some getting used to but I can see the advantages for some uses. If nothing else, its funky and fun for a low entry price.

Didn't get any pictures of the factory edge, but here is the fresh edge.

Thick behind the edge ?! Bad news for me. Could you tell how thick ? Did you measure it ? You say you reprofiled it(and I can see you only sharpened the blade at a lower angle) but doing so, it should be even thicker bte since it’s a flat grind. Maybe you are referring to the sharpening angle from the factory not the thickness behind the edge.

No no, the factory edge angle was more obtuse than I wanted. Did not measure.

BTE is not chunky- it is ground well.

Ufff. It’s a relief. I was surprised because my chinese spydies came quite thin bte.
P.S i hope I’ll be able to score one sharpened at a lower angle. I am not in the mood to reprofile that edge freehand.
