Within the last few weeks I have acquired some Byrd value folders and some PM3's.
(Harrier 2 Lightweight Wharnecliffe, Cara Cara 2 Lightweight Wharnecliffe , Robin 2 Stainless, Meadowlark 2 Stainless, as well as (PM3 Cru-Carta,PM3 Factory Second - Black G10/Black CPM S30V Blade)
I am well aware of the fakes, knock offs, clones or what ever you want to call them.
Now that I have the itch from the Spyderco bite, I am trying to figure out what is my next purchase.
Over the weekend I was handling the Manix2 G10 and liked the feel and how well it was built.
Thinking about the Manix 2 in Micarta/Cruwear to compliment the Para 3 Cru Carta I have.
Or
The Manix 2 with G10 Scales and CPM S30V Blade
Or
Para 2 with G10 with S45VN Blade
Or
Para 2 with Micarta/Cruwear
I don't typically use my knives hard but I like to have it in case I need it.
Most of the time the knife stays in my pocket and gets wiped down before I put it away.
However, I don't want a brittle blade that is prone to breaking or is too delicate.
I like the size of the PM3 and know the PM2 and the Manix2 is larger.
Is there any others around the same size as the PM3 I should consider?
I'll try to post some pictures when I have more time.
Can you guys please give me some insight on what you would recommend?
Thanks
Welcome to the forum!
- First and foremost:
I personally think you should definitely try a serrated Spyderco! To me superior cutting performance in most folder tasks, better edge holding, a tad easier and quicker to sharpen than PE
Should you choose to try really good, high performance serrations: You can´t go wrong with Endela SE, Stretch XL SE, Leafjumper SE (I think on disco´ed sale now), Chaparral SE or Caribbean SE.
- Out of the knives you listed I´d go with the Manix: So you could try a new lock, the CBBL, which I personally much prefer over the comp.lock of the other models (CBBL being totally ambidextrous, better closing bias, no potentially "hotspotty" cutouts on the handle...)
I would go for the Manix 2 lightweight though: Light, but really sturdy, this combo for me showcases the "true art of knife designing".
If you want another comp.lock Spydie: My choice would be the Sage 5 LW over the Para 3, and in a larger size the Caribbean (SE...) or Bodacious, if you have the money.
Just my 2c and based on what I personally came to like over the years.
