Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
What about a Native Salt? I say this since you mentioned the Salt 2. I would prefer the Salt 2 but that Native Salt is pretty rugged.

Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
I think longer blades are more ideal for SE knives, as they tend to be used for slicing cuts more than push cuts.
May you find peace in this life and the next.
Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
I might expand this a bit…I might argue that longer and very short blades are ideal for SE.
While I don’t currently have a PE for direct comparison, I have an SE ladybug that I keep in my bike pack for unexpected “trail pruning” etc. that little thing blows me away and while it has less handle, has every bit as much cutting power as a dragonfly…maybe even a lil native. When budget allows, I would like to get my hands on both a DF and ladybug hawkbill!

I say he needs to pick either big or small . It’s really hard to say not having concise information. I would prefer no smaller than the Endela and big would be the Endura . MG2

Well I am on a ranch or boat mostly so I doubt this will be a drawer queen LOL
It’s replacing my tried and true G-2 delica, hopefully it will be worthy of the ol gal G-2 legacy

Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
Mostly agree, except my Dragonfly Salt is pretty savage for such a small blade, same with the Ladybug. I do think serrations only get better when there's more of them, but serrations also add to the cutting power for small knives.

Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
this right here is part of what made me want to edc se more. i definitely agree that i would prefer a longer edge for more serrations if i needed to cut something with se. however, se also increases the cutting edge and power of smaller blades, thereby maximizing small blades. there's definitely an argument for either.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Alex, my friend, first and foremost: I am really glad you´re back and this still with all the humor and positivity you bring to this forum! Don´t know if you were "gone" for long (or at all?) but it seems so to me!
Now: I did miss you as a person, but as much your amazing level of expertise: So you say a knife could
actually be used for cutting?! I´ll have to think about that one, but it is a bit of a shocker here in sock drawer country, I have to say...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
Yes , I agree mine just arrived and I think I would have been happier with a larger version.
It’s a Christmas gift from the wife and I don’t think she would notice that I exchanged it
The small one is small and I need to figure out if it can be made sharp ( the factory edge seems lacking and is super rough on the grind)

So you went with the Salt and not the PAC Salt in the end?S-3 ranch wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 3:06 pmYes , I agree mine just arrived and I think I would have been happier with a larger version.

/ Sorry to hear about the lack of sharpness - all of my SE Spydies came more than sharp enough.
But of course "i can be made sharp" - I may point you to this very helpful thread by Vivi (the very first post tells you all you need to know already. There are also two vids linked there) viewtopic.php?t=84544#p1349519

Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
Salt 2 LC200n , about delica size , probably will trade for a pacific salt, about endura size?Wartstein wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 4:05 pmSo you went with the Salt and not the PAC Salt in the end?S-3 ranch wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 3:06 pmYes , I agree mine just arrived and I think I would have been happier with a larger version.

Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
The Salt 2 is Delica sized, and frankly it’s just too small for my taste, for a work/task knife. I’m looking towards an Atlantic or Pac Salt myself.
Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
Yeah definitely worth the extra $10 to get the pac salt if you’re looking at a work knife
And holy smokes the spydie hole is sharp enough to irritate my poor thumb
Sharp thumb hole , short blade! I am now buying a PAC salt , polishing the thumb hole and have a work knife

Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
Have Salts in many different sizes but for me the Pacific Salt in SE H1 is by far the best hard use folder I know.
Re: Help pick a full serrated knife
Question? Do you think H1 or vg10 holds a sharp edge longer than LC200N?
I am busy as heck and don’t have any equipment to sharpen my salt 2 , a week of edc has knocked the edge keenness down hard, doing more sawing then cutting, I need to strop or find
A quick remedy to finish the next week or two
