I completely understand your thoughts and really that is a good idea . I wanted to expand Salts I have and may order one of two I am looking at or hold off till later . To be honest really want more diversity before burning out on my favorites. Have some decisions to make and stick with it . Dan

I received my M2 Salt in yesterdays mail. Very impressive knife in all respects. Quality seems to be excellent in all aspects. That G10 is definitely solid and has traction.

Given the Salt status of this knife couple with a fantastic stainless steel capable of running a nice low edge angle for my usage I don't know how I would realistically need a different knife in the full size 4" EDC category... this knife could likely be a one and done solution for someone. I could see it being fantastic for anyone working in a hot sweaty enviroment who never wants to worry about internal corrosion or an edge slightly dulled by it when the emergent time to use the knife arrived. Put it in your duty pants pocket or vest and forget it... great knife for a LE or Military user I think.

Shoutout to the kind folks that encouraged me to do a better job on my clip-flaming. I took it slow and got a much better result - super stoked on how the steel-blue looks on the cub brown 15V M2 handles. I included some views in different light, and with my previous botched effort side by side. Thanks for the recommendations-

I've started doing that too on my polished clips. Makes a big difference. Not a fan of wearing anything shiny....watches, pocket clips, etc.

Pretty much my motivations, too. I considered taking it apart and trying to heat-blue all of the hardware, but the action is just too perfect right now to risk messing with it. Always looking for a way to decrease the chrome-shiny, though.

I wonder if a quick dip in a ferric chloride solution might help to take down the polish a little bit or if it would be too corrosive.

It'll remove the chrome entirely and make it look like bead blasted titanium. I guess maybe if you do it quick enough maybe there's some middle ground between the two? Never tried that, but etching and then letting them scratch naturally is one of my favorite clips finishes.

Acetone does something similar. It's my preferred finish.

I received my Military 2 Salt today, and could hardly be more pleased. Perfect action, which for me means it takes some force to break the detent, a little effort to slow roll, and the blade drops slowly when the lock is released. I won't be adjusting this one for a while! Blade is well centered and bevels reasonably even but not perfect. I'll reprofile before long anyway.

Here's something I don't usually encounter: The clip screws are so short that the knife won't accept an MXG Gear clip, which is slightly thicker than the OEM clip. I don't have any longer black-coated screws lying around, so it looks like I'll be sanding down an MXG Gear clip. Definitely not a defect, because the original clip works fine. Just a minor, and weird, annoyance.

After applying Loctite 242 and curing the clip is rock solid . I still may replace the screws when they come in. Very relieved , this knife is awesome in hand for me . Need to decide if I want another variant by Friday . Dan

I took your advice and called Spyderco. I couldn't get Daniel, but Chris was able to help. He's sending me some longer black screws, but warned they might not work for tip-down, which is how I carry Millies. I'll just have to try them and see, and then maybe shorten the screws.

My screws don't even reach the threads. They just spin, so unfortunately Loctite won't work in my case.

Something I noticed when unboxing the 15V version: it struck me how thin the tip was.
Especially when comparing it to my S30V variant.
It did trigger a bit of “tip-anxiety” at my end.

Due to the stonewashed finish it has the edges broken, that might already contribute to the impression it is thinner. (Optical illusion?)
Or is there a different grinding process used on the sprints?

Somebody else noticed this?

Other than that: fit & finish is perfect, no lock stick too.

So I measured the tips on each one and here is what I found:
S90V - 0.029
S110V - 0.030
SPY27 - 0.033
CruWear - 0.029
15V - 0.028

So they are all very close all by margins of error.

Initial impressions:

- they keep putting the clip on the wrong spot with the military 2

- probably the sharpest edge I've ever gotten from a NIB Spyderco - But it also lost it quicker than VG10 does. Obviously needs my own edge and some sharpenings before I can really judge the steel.

- speaking of steel, my first magnacut blade. wonder how it compares to h1 and lc200n long term.

- zero play.

- good centering.

- moderate lock stick.

- lock travel is at 50%. my other millie 2's are around 25%. I'm not worried though, comp locks tend to settle and stay where they're at a while for me.

- action feels gritty. gonna try blasting it with compressed air but I'm not sure why it'd feel that way right out of the box.

- handle texture feels great in hand. wasn't sure if I'd run stock scales or swap to regular g10 from my s30v run, but I love the tactile response of textured scales.

- it feels worse unclipping it from my pocket than a regular millie 2. There is additional drag VS the regular g10 scales. Not terrible though, but next time I take the clip off I'll sand underneath a bit.

- clip screws felt off. when I switched them to tip up they wouldn't go in unless I put a lot of downward force on the screwdriver. not an issue with my other millie 2's...odd.


All in all it's probably the best pocket knife Spyderco has ever made. Police is my favorite design but the Millie 2 being available in a salt version while every Police run is susceptible to rust gives the Millie 2 the edge for now.

I got my Salt today. As others reported, mine has a similar 50ish percent lockup--same as my s30v and s90v to my eyes--and no lock stick as other. The clip works tip up and down right hand fine with no movement (I didn't try left side carry). The scales + clip placement are as atrocious as they looked to be; this one won't get clipped unless/until I can find something longer that hits the pad in the proper spot, or maybe the scales are a lost cause and the right play is getting new ones....Not sure yet.
