Re: Why does Spyderco allow this?

It's a long story. The short version is that Spyderco didn't allow it. I won't get into the particulars in light of Sal's request that we leave "shiny footprints" here and not speak ill of other manufacturers.

Nope. I try to minimize any income tax overpayment. No sense in me loaning money interest-free to Uncle Sam for a year.

The VG10 on my Enduras, Delica, and others is one of the cleanest, nicest shiniest looking, toughest, most robust and durable steel alloys I have ever used and known.
I absolutely agree 100%!

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run? (or a new C09 CoPilot Sprint Run)

The more I've thought about it, the more I like the idea of a brass liner. Together with an aluminum handle would make a sharp looking little gents knife. I would be very interested in hearing Sal's thoughts on ever doing brass liners again. They do look really classy, I will have to admit that. As...

Re: Sal, any possibility of a Scandium knife?

I will be watching the response to this thread with interest. It sounds like a very interesting material for a potential handle scales. I'd love to see a Sprint Run C09 CoPilot be the first Spyderco knife to utilize this material. It looks like Airbus is been working with a Scandium/Aluminum alloy k...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

2017 marks the 30th Anniversary of the C09 CoPilot. Today am carrying a pair of those original brass-lined CoPilots from 1987: C09P and C09S. These were just received back this morning from a trip to the Spydie Spa (Spyderco Warranty and Repair) where they were resharpened and had the handles recond...

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run? (or a new C09 CoPilot Sprint Run)

Anyone else interested in seeing a new Sprint Run of the C09 CoPilot? What are you thoughts on the blade and handle material? What kind of a retail price point would you like to see the knife be at?

Carrying a pair of favorites today: the C32 Spur (2005 Sprint Run edition) in both PE and CE. Notice the matching Collector's Club number (029V). I bought the plain edge variety through another forum. Years later the combo edge partner turned up on Ebay and I convinced the seller that he needed to ...

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run? (or a new C09 CoPilot Sprint Run)

Here's something to ponder: the first run of the C09 CoPilot had brass liners which many people think gave the knives an extra touch of class. What would you think of handle scales made of Aluminum Bronze (AlBr) alloy? This alloy is used in the tool industry to create non-sparking hand tools for use...

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run? (or a new C09 CoPilot Sprint Run)

It would be great if they used an Aluminum + Scandium handle. Lighter and stronger than Titanium. That is an interesting concept! Any idea how expensive it would be to use Scandium aluminum for the scales? Has Spyderco ever done a Scandium handle scale before? If I understand it correctly the Scand...

Depends on the scale material, right? Metal handles = metal clip, FRN or G10 etc could be either wire clip or metal clip.

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run?

Of these, I'd especially like to see a Co-Pilot Sprint. FFG VG-10, TI-scales, lanyard hole with a wire clip = perfection. That would be sweet. Personally, I'd love a CoPilot with titanium scales for EDC. But that handle material would drive up the price and might keep it out of the reach of lots of...

I've been watching this thread from the sidelines and as a primary user of vintage Spydercos, didn't have much of an opinion one way or another about red Loctite since I'm not a knife tweaker. But I will make one observation based on experience and that is that I have never seen another company as c...

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run?

We made one with Kraton inserts. Didn't go over so well. I'd rather do a CoPilot revision. sal Sal: You must be talking about the C32 Spur as a reissue of the C04 Executive? People were crazy not to receive that c32 very well, and I'm one of those weirdos who totally LOVED that model and own six of...

Sal: C04 Sprint Run? (or a new C09 CoPilot Sprint Run)

Sal:

Is there any particular reason why the model C04 Executive has never had a Sprint Run? It was such a great design and size for EDC use.

It would love to see it comeback for a Sprint.

Re: Original Spyderco Knife: questions about it.

In the Spyderco Factory Tour Blade HQ video on YouTube, Eric Glesser shows that knife and says it was the first prototype for what would become the C01 Worker in 1981. He says that Sal took parts from a Spyderco Portable Hand and welded the on top of the blade to make the hump then drilled out the r...
