Plans for a (BBB) CPM-15V Native Chief

#1

Post by JMM »

I was browsing the "What Spyderco is in your pocket today??" thread and nearly had a heart attack for a moment when I saw a brown handled Native Chief until I remembered the M390 version existed & realized that was what I was looking at . . .

With all the Golden (BBB) 15V models that have come, gone & are yet to come officially, is there any word or rumor on the Naive Chief getting the 15V treatment?

Anyone else know anything or have the same thought? In all honesty there is no model I want more, it's just so good!

Cheers,

John

This is why I have only the Military 2 in 15V so far. Honestly, I was expecting to see the Native Chief in 15V before some of the self-defense models like the full Yojimbo lineup got that treatment—even though I get that, for most people, those are basically just box cutters. Personally, I’d much rather see a Salt Yojimbo and a 15V Native Chief, not the other way around like it is now. It just makes more sense for the intended use, IMO.
Recent favourites: Massad Ayoob CPM CRU-WEAR PE & SE, Yojimbo 2, Lil' Temperance 3 K390.
Looking to add: Spyderco C131CFP Terzuola Slipit.

I never had a Native Chief, I would buy one in 15V in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately with the end of Crucible, there will be no more 15V. As far as we know, the currently announced models are all that will be made(from steel Spyderco has on hand), so a 15V Chief is probably not going to happen.

I was lamenting the lack of a Native Chief in 15V just yesterday. It’s kind of baffling to me that Spyderco chose to run all three models of the Yojimbo family, the Military family, and most of the Native family in 15V but left the Chief out of the mix. Surely they sell better than the Yojumbo?

I’m still waiting for the Cru-Chief to come out but it seems like there’s a problem there as well. It’s a tough stretch for those of us who love the Native Chief.

I think if they had more time and more steel we'd have seen a lot of models in this steel. It's really a shame.

I've got the Shaman and Military 2, and while I thought I'd end up buying everything I could in 15V, when this last Manix came out I found myself asking if I'd ever carry it over my Military and the answer was a very easy No. At this point I really just want a 15V Bodacious.

I hope there is no issue/delay with the Native 15V…

I would buy one in any steel, in a heartbeat, if they made it with stainless steel liners.

If they want to skip the Natives and go straight to the Chief, it's fine by me.

I bought the Mule Team, Manix 2, PM2 and Military 2 in 15V as soon as they were released, and that's probably enough until the BBB folder arrives. A Bodacious or Stretch 2 XL would be an instant buy, but I don't it happening. Unfortunately the Native/Chief series doesn't really match my hands, so no interest there.

The Spyderco First Family and Staff have their hands full with management of the expansion and planning for the next year or two.

I knew that the supply of 15V would be limited. When I did not see a release date projected for a 15V Native Chief I did not ask any questions. I am not terribly disappointed, but if it happens, YIPPIE!

I do look forward to a MagnaMax Native Chief. It may be the most balanced Native Chief that I ever own. That is more likely.

Would be great, but lets see the 15V Native already. Reminds me of the endless wait for the Rex45 Chief a few years ago.

The chief Rex45 sold poorly and got clearanced. Not sure the market will snatch up a BBB 15v chief. I am surprised the 15v Manix is still in stock.

It appears that they made quite a lot because so many dealers have them in stock. I'm already plotting my build for this knife. I missed when the Yojimbo came out and I'm still kicking myself over that one. I plan on being on top of any future releases.
