MOT : Surefire G-2 flashlight

Just ordered one of these in yellow ( the tactical black -or- olive drab, I learned,

can be easily lost when in the boonies )

It's their most basic model ; what are your

opinion(s) of THIS one?

What say the augurers?

Got a yellow one in my bailout bag. Bright as an E2, tough, 10 year battery life... what's not to like?

A little bulkier than the aluminum models, but the price is certainly a lot less too.

I was a little dismayed to find out it didn't have a lockout tail cap, until I read the instructions (doh!) and found out you just unscrew the bezel a couple turns if you don't want accidental activation.

I have one on my wife's bedside table. Can't beat the price or the quality of light. Since it sits on her table the lockout cap didn't bug me too much. I guess it bugged me enough that I got a centurion for myself.

The G2 is a nice cheap high power flash light. Can't go wrong with that combination.

I don't have a G-2, but I have several other Surefire lights, and all are of the absolute highest quality.

These days, if it isn't a Surefire light, I don't bother with it.

C3 Centurion
Z3 Combatlight
E2 Executive w/KL-1 LED Head

LEDs are the way to go these days. They never burn out and use much less energy.

The G2 is a very good light, and far more attractively priced than the metal Surefires. I actually got mine as a freebie from John Standridge, a Surefire rep who was helping to instruct a Steve Tarani Edged Weapons class.

I believe the standard P60 bulb in the G2 is similair in lumen output to the MN03 in the E2e which I have.
I really like my E2e over my led lights (Arc-LSL) because of the far throw it has. A SureFire L4 has a similair light output, but by far not such a far throw.

One thing, you should not drain the batteries in your SureFire. It will shorten the life of the bulb. When my beam gets yellow I change the batteries and keep them for my Arc LSL-S (on sale at Arc) which accepts 1 x 123 and has a regulated output so I can use that to really drain my batteries.

Does anyone know where I might find a picture of a comparison between a demonstration of a Surefire E1 (which I recently bought) and an E2? The E1 seems plenty bright enough, but if the E2 has 4x the lumens, it must be rather impressive, to say the least...

Best one out there.

I like my A2;3 LED's to save power and an incandescent for long range. But I really dig my Arc-LS. Tiny and super bright for it's size.

Allen - I have a modest collection of lights including models from Arc, Inova, CMG and Sure Fire. Sure Fire beats the **** out of all others! When it comes to pure light, nothing beats the power of a Sure Fire...ANY Sure Fire! If you want to learn more, join Candlepower forums at candlepower.com.

I had one, but I couldn't get it to lock out to my satisfaction so I returned it.
It is a nice light for the price. You need a Inova X5 also, so when the batteries won't light up in the G2, you can drop them in the X5 and suck a little more juice out of them.
