Microjimbo, sage 5, Bodacious potential tip protruding
I recently picked up a bodacious, sage 5 salt and a microjimbo. Love those knives, but why all three have a same issue which is that the tip is not into the scale deep enough. Why can’t these scales rise a bit at the end of the handle??
Re: Microjimbo, sage 5, Bodacious potential tip protruding
I've noticed that on my Bodacious, particularly the one I've convexed and sharpened a lot. I can tweak the tang where it hits the stop pin and lower the blade into the handle but it sure would be better to not have to. By comparison the Military 1/2 will have to be sharpened down to practically nothing for this to be an issue.

A few knives do this, both my Shaman are like this as well, I only checked as others mentioned it or I wouldnt have even noticed, havent looked at the other 30 plus spyderco I have, either way I have never had an issue with it, its never caught on anything so it really doesn't bother me. The fact that its on many models and not the odd knife of that model but all of them and the fact its been mentioned many times in the past Spyderco is obviously aware of it and "IF" it was an issue they would have changed/Fixed it as they wont mess with a knife with safety issues. Nothing at all to worry about

Sent my Shaman in to be looked at, the tip was below the scales but looked similar to yours. I was told it was normal and within spec though others in the "normal" range might sit a little low. My recent Bodacious is also similar.
I think it's just the way the knives were designed and thousands of them have been used and sharpened without issue.
I do agree that it has me a tiny bit concerned. I feel if over the years as I sharpen it, reprofile it, etc. I only need to take about 1/16th - 1/8th of an inch off for it to be a problem and the tip above the scales. If I can ever take that much steel off through normal use and normal edge maintenance time will only tell. But until then, in Sal I trust.

I have the same "issue"" on my Lil Native Slipit as wwell as Lil Native back lock, the tip just seems to ride a bit high, and phenomenon I mostly encountered on traditional folders so far. I still enjoy the Lil Native, but it wasn't what I was expecting.
On the Native 5, the Chaparal, as well as the Urban the tip sits way lower, which makes me think they can be sharpened quite a lot more than the Lil Native.
Oh, and not to mention the Delica, which I have to say has the best design of probably all knives I've ever handled in this regard.

I have a delica in k390, the ergo fits my hand very good, if it was a stainless steel I would probably have carried more often, I sweat way too much. The amount of patina and corrosion on the blade just from sitting in my pocket is scary.Palestrina wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 12:53 pmI have the same "issue"" on my Lil Native Slipit as wwell as Lil Native back lock, the tip just seems to ride a bit high, and phenomenon I mostly encountered on traditional folders so far. I will probably end up selling my microjimbo. I cant think of how reprofiling can save the tip from protruding with that blade shape, unless you remove the point tip completely OR simply make the end of the scale a bit bigger.WilliamMunny wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 7:10 amSent my Shaman in to be looked at, the tip was below the scales but looked similar to yours.
