Have you ever sold a Spyderco, regretted it and bought a replacement later on

Some years back
when I was, shall we say,
in a financial strain,
I sold my most costly knife to date:
A Spyderco Schempp Bowie.

Since then,
I've only missed it two times:
Day and night.
Lately, my situation has improved
and I set out to find another one.

eBay has a handy search function
that lets you set up a search
so that you receive an email
if the item is listed.

Last week, I received one such email,
jumped on it and today it arrived
in brand new condition.
I'm a very happy camper.

So, fellow Spyderco enthusiasts,
have you ever sold, then regretted selling
and sought to replace
or successfully replaced a Spyderco?

many times.

OG Street beat I sold because I got more into other small fixed blades from lt wright, landi etc. bought a replacement off ebay for not much more than original retail.

sold off my c95's when the manix xl came out. it was dumb. regretted it pretty quickly even though the XL is a great folder. Bought three more - black CE, black PE, green PE.

Street Bowie is another. Used to carry one hiking around 2012-2015. Eventually stopped using it in favor of other designs. Traded it for my first SE Pacific Salt actually. Missed it, got another, carried it a few times, then went back to other knives. Holding on to the second one though.

Military 1 was my main EDC from around 2007-2014. I used to have 6 or so. Sold them all off but my daily user, a CPMD2 blade in a digicam handle with a stupid thin edge and a wicked patina. It got stolen summer of 2014 and I went until the 204p sprint before I finally replaced it. Not quite the same thing but close enough.

The list of knives I've sold and not regretted is much, much longer, but there's definitely been a few I missed and bought again.

Funny thing is it's usually cheap random knives that I have trouble finding when I want to re-buy old knives. Ontario camp plus machete, victorinox nylon solo, pre-merger Moras, dumb stuff like that. Nylon solos used to be $8, and last I looked they were $80 lol.

While I've never sold a Spyderco, I have replaced some that I've lost. My most recent one was a Smock. I have no idea where I lost that blade, but it's gone and I liked it som much that I bought a replacement within days. I've lost a few all stainless POLICE models over the years and those have been replaced as well.

I started reading your post like it was a poem. I was hoping for the rhymes but they weren't there haha.

Never sold a Spyderco, so it's never been a problem.

Sold a CF/M390 Military after trying to get used to it for a while...just didn't care for carrying/using it left-handed. Regretted it, eventually got one of the green G10/204P ones when they came out. Different scales; basically the same steel.

Still doesn't get much use for not being particularly lefty friendly. 😅

Recently got a 15V Military 2...much, much prefer that design.

Every other Spyderco I've sold, no regrets. And those sales have mainly just cleaning ZDP-189 out of the collection. Learned my lesson with the M390 Millie and don't let much else go these days except as gifts.

I sold an original Military 1 CF S90V. I bought it second hand and sanded the scales to get rid of a few nasty scratches. I used it a whole lot, and sold it to buy the Knifeworks exclusive Military S90V in CF with the Ti frame lock. When the M2 CF S90V sprint came around I got 2.

I haven't. I have started to sell, then realized I needed to come to my senses and didn't do it.

To regret a knife's absence is to create suffering.
Its impermanence is evidence that its purpose has passed.

The one's I've purchased and then decided not to keep can probably be counted on two hands. I can recall one that I might have parted with prematurely. It was the Manix 2 REX45 Sprint. I'm a fan of the lightweights, so I kept that one and sold the heavyweight. I still prefer to carry LW's, and the only HW I have is at 15V that rarely gets carried.

My first Spyderco was a was a C44 Dyad and was one of my main edc knives . As collection grew it kept getting less time in pocket so when I purged collection it was sold . After shipping off realized I had just got rid of a big part of my knife history with big regret . I mentioned it at a dinner with buddies and one of them told me he would give me a call the next day . Sure enough he called and checked his briefcase of doubles and had one new in box and told me to help him find a Siren . Found Siren at good price and we were both happy . Later a ATR SS came out of the briefcase ! 😂 MG2

Not so much regret, but I sold my Vallotton in 2012 and I've wanted another one ever since. I've always planned on getting another one but it kept getting back burnered by other models.

I sort of have the opposite problem than regret, I've hesitated on models and later end up loving them.

I end up giving mine to different people for different reasons. Some never have had a Spyderco knife, others just con me out of one they just love that I had at the time.

I do have a couple that I intended to just replace after giving them away and never got around to that, and now some of them are nla...

I just sent my K294 Mule to my mother, now she does have a couple of Spyderco folders and just loves them, the first one I gave her was my Dragonfly Sprint Run, but she can't believe how good this Mule is already.

She uses it in the kitchen processing food, outside in her garden and I am sure it has a good home now lol...that one is going to be hard to replace lol. Heck I never got a chance to even use it lol...

I've sold/gifted a bunch of Spyderco's, but I've not regretted any of them. I only sell/gift them when they become redundant.

For example I just sold a Police 4 LW because I acquired a Police 3, which is far superior in every conceivable metric. I may buy another Police 4 LW someday if a new sprint comes along that catches my fancy.

The knife I miss the most, that I've been meaning to replace but haven't yet, is a SOG Kiku XR in linen micarta that I gifted to my boss.

More than a few times, though I've gifted them away, not sold them. I've done it with the Shaman, the Para 3, the Subway Bowie, the RockJumper, and twice with the Delica 4 Wharncliffe. All of them I eventually re-bought (sometimes in a different steel and/or blade finish and/or edge configuration), except for the Delica 4 Wharncliffe, which I ultimately replaced with a Salt 2 Wharncliffe in LC200N (though really, the Salt 2 is just a liner-less Delica 4).

Not any of the Spydercos I’ve sold, but a couple of fixed blades from CPK and one is regrettable enough that I WILL replace it…one day.

Sold two Dodo sprints, the Orange and Carbon Fiber when I severely downsized my collection around 10 years ago. Fortunately, the new Dodo St. Nick’s exclusive just dropped and one is waiting for me when I get home from vacation.

Not yet, but I still think about re-purchasing the Centofante 3 that I sold several years ago!

Sold my Para 3 long time ago because I prefer bigger blades in general, with a few exceptions. Held a Para 3 during the AMS meet in Feb which made me reconsider. In this part of Europe a Para 3 is less scary than a Military. Also for my EDC it does the job. So I bought the G10 15v when it came out. In the end i'm just a spoiled knife guy I guess 😅

As close as I have come is forgetting why I sold a knife and trying it again.

I’ve tried to like multiple models multiple times. I seem to have come to my senses because I didn’t buy the recent Dodo even though I’ve sold two in the past. I tend to think that if I try again maybe it will click.
