New Graham Knives is closing!

Hi everyone,

I really hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but unfortunately the staff at New Graham Knives (NGK) in Bluefield, Virginia have informed me that their store is closing. They are no longer receiving new shipments of Spyderco knives (sadly including my CC 087s), and I’m not sure if they’ll be holding a going out of business sale or the like any time soon. They are very understaffed right now so reaching out to them may not be very helpful if you’re wondering about the possibility of a sale like that. They’ve been such an awesome bunch to work with over the last decade plus of my collecting Spydies, and their absence is going to leave a big hole in my heart.

Not so many cheers this time, Radioactive

oh wow, that's awful news. I love their shop. My first time visiting I took a 4 hour detour on a road trip to go there and buy the (at the time) brand new police 3.

I'll call them and see how much time I have to make a trip there. It was where my kid got her first spyderco and I promised her we'd go this summer and I'd let her pick out a new one.

Always sad to see a business in the hobby go under. I hope the best for all of them.

Very sad news. New Graham was one of the few trusted dealers that I purchased from. I used to order from them over the phone, and always had a friendly experience.

Wishing the best in the future for all involved.

That’s a shame. I wish them the best.

That's a great shame. I've been a customer for a great many years (15 or more maybe?). As a side bonus, I have 2 or 3 CC numbered knives from them... they must have gotten unclaimed ones on occasion and randomly sent them out to normal customers.

Such a great source for used and disco'd knives at a very fair price. Was able to get a nos ZDP-189 Endura PE Saber grind and a Endura V-toku for less than $200 a year or so ago.

Hopefully it's just so Mike can retire and enjoy his time.

indeed. NOS Police 3 for $99, which is less than they originally sold for. NOS Recon folder for $99. NOS C95 sprint for $199.

Called them and got no answer, but if they'll be open for in person shopping for another week or two I'm driving down there.

Very sad news indeed. I never made it down there. Over the years I’ve had some great scores from them. If they have a sale I’ll grab a few shortlist items.

Sad news...

Unfortunately I never bought from them because of their cumbersome process around international shipping.

I don’t like disturbances in the Spyderco ecosystem, so this news sucks hardly less than Crucible. Are exclusively online sales making brick and mortar stores unsustainable, as in other lines of business?

I’d love to have a knife shop locally but I also cannot fathom keeping a business going unless it was also an online retailer. Especially as knives (in general) got so much cheaper.

All I have locally is gun shops with a basic set of Spyderco, Benchmade, and junk knives. But at the same time any Spyderco in production can be here in a couple days. Pros and cons.

Image In 2007 I ordered the Endura ZDP189 from NGK and it came with a CC number . I contacted them and they said it was their CC number and they just throw them in stock . I’m sad to hear they are going out of business. MG2

End of an era. NGK was one of my go-to dealers for years before the NY crackdowns and they stopped shipping to my state. Great folk and great service.

got more info today.

NGK will likely be open for in person shopping until the end of the month.

If anyone is trying to ahop there before they close, I was advised to call the corner pharmacy beforehand and ask for mike dye. if NGK isnt open that day he can open up for customers that make the trip.

Sounds like it was more for personal reasons than financial.

I thanked them and will try to make a final trip before the 4th of july.

I'll have to bring back my old thread from the 2000's from when I first visited and re-upload the old photos!

Sad news but thanks for sharing. I never visited the store but heard good reviews from those who did. Their website had good pictures and information.

My first Spyderco purchases were from them, still remember calling them up, getting a money order for $40ish, and then waiting patiently to get my Calypso Jr in the mail.

Is the pharmacy still going to be open?

This is sad new, indeed. Why are they closing? Is the owner simply retiring? I hope that's the case and not finacial issues.

Beautiful blade. What are CC numbers? I think a couple of mine have them. Can't remember where I bought them.

Please do! Such sad news, though. I may have bought from them years ago.
