Just to be clear, i'm thinking of the Police 4 LW Salt edition in the same way the Military 2 has a Salt edition

The M2 salt is not a LW though... So what you actually want is maybe not a Police 4 LW Salt, but a Police 4 Salt.

I'm fine with either, I guess. But to throw in a third option - what I think would be most coolest'est is a linerless G-10, Police 4 salt FFG PE and CE. OK, make it SE as well, there will probably be someone who wants that too.

I wonder if there would be too much flex in a linerless FRN Police handle? On the flipside, making this model in G10 may drive up the cost, as has historically been the case with G10 models coming from Japan.

In a perfect world every knife would have a Salt variant. I love tool steels but also sometimes I just want the luxury of being able to neglect a knife in wet/dirty environments without worrying about corrosion. With steels like MagnaCut and potentially MagnaMax leveling the playing field between stainless and non stainless steels there's less and less reasons to not opt for a Salt variant if it were offered.

I even like playing with patinas but if I were given the option between a steel like 15V or a Salt worthy variant of 15V that could live up to the performance of non stainless 15V, why wouldn't I choose the Salt option? If everything else is comparable, both sharpen the same both have similar edge retention and toughness and all that, don't know why I'd ever choose the non stainless version.

I'd take an H1 Police over a 15V Police 10/10 times.

For me rust proofing a knife is a much bigger deal than increasing the edge retention.

Sharpening a knife is quick and easy.

Taking apart a Police to scrub rust off the liners is not.

I haven't even touched my 15V or S30V Military 2's since the salt arrived. Not a fan of dealing with this sort of thing. Where I live we're getting 95-100F days already. There's no avoiding sweat in those conditions when working outside.

It'd be the same story with the Police. If they released a Salt version and a 15V version tomorrow, I'd only buy one of those runs.

Right now there's only three options for the Police 4:

- Tool steel sprint that is susceptible to rust, and for some reason was made with uncoated liners (stopped carrying mine for the summer, sadly)

- VG10 run, which will rust within an hour or two of being carried in a sweaty pocket

- Spy27, which may fare slightly better than VG10, but I know I'd still rust it within a single day of working in my garage or on the hiking trails in my woods.

So bring on the Salts. I'd rather deal with PE H1's edge retention than the rust that forms on tool steel folders with uncoated liners. I can carry the former year round and do the same amount of maintenance in the summer as I do in the winter.

Great overview.

I just got the Miltary 2 Salt, I'll carry it for a bit to see how it pockets

Also, good point about the Salt having a thicker profile. I'll see if it makes much a difference

Yes, a linerless Police salt like the stretch xl. I would definitely get one. Even if the frn had to be slightly thicker to handle the linerless option. While magnacut would be nice/preferred, h2 or maybe lc200n would be ok - especially since getting magnacut to seki may not happen for quite a while. PE Lc200n would be able to keep the full flat grind, too. A serrated h2 police salt would be awesome.

Perhaps this is a bit off-topic, but why do Salts from Seki have a different construction than the Salts (or LW) Chiefs and Natives from Golden? The Golden construction seems much more simple to put back together. Is there some important difference I'm missing? I've haven't owned either, but I always found the differences interesting.

That's what I'm talkin' about! :party-face

But uncoated blade. There are enough dark-horse P4s already.

If they ever make a linerless Police Salt, it will be interesting to see if the FRN handle would get a bit thicker than it is with the current linered version:

- The Salt 2 (no liners) handle is noticeably thicker than the similarly shaped Delica (liners) handle - to me this actually improves ergos
(As a matter of fact the Salt 2 handle has the same thickness as the Pac Salt 2 / Endura handle)

- The Pac Salt 2 (no liners) handle though still has the same thickness as the Endura (liners) handle.

Wonder if they´d go "make it thicker" with a linerless FRN Police handle again in order to reduce flex, since the Police is quite a bit longer than Endura/Pac Salt 2... and I assume that a bit thicker / handfilling could not hurt ergos (but perhaps carry).

thicker handles make the police more comfortable. the lw is thicker than the g10, and my aftermarket g10 is thicker than the lw. thicker handles feel better and are still easy to carry in this case.

I am sure I'd feel the same with the Police.
I have / had two Spydies with a bit thickened handles compared to the original (micarta scale Endura / wood scale Tenacious) and the direct comparison from Delica to Salt 2... in all three cases the thicker handle feels better indeed, at least for my hand.

This has been brought up previously a few times or more.
There's a group of us here who'd love to see it happen, me being in that group.

I'd LOVE to see a run of Police 4 LW Salts. My preference would be for LC200N FFG (like the PacSalt), or maybe Magnacut? (though I will say I was underwhelmed by the Native Chief LW Magnacut, so...).

Like vivi wrote, I'd [likely] buy 10 of them.
My preference however, would not be for a Saber Ground H1/H2, or [heavier] G10.

What I wonder is: Would thin-ish (like the PacSalt) FFG LC200N with a bit of a hollow-grind, making it maybe a bit thinner behind the edge, be even better (best?).

u.w.

I've wanted a Police Salt for a while now, so I'd be all in. Unlike u.w. above, I'd prefer saber-ground H2. I'm not sure whether I'd rather have the Stretch 2 XL Salt tip or the more robust Pacific Salt tip. I actually like the robust tip better, but it doesn't really fit the Police's personality. I'd probably buy it in any Salt steel, linered or linerless, G-10 or FRN, and either tip shape.

The full Military 2 Salt treatment would be pretty awesome.

Whatever configuration Sal and Co. decide on I’ll take one in pe and one in se…the Stretch XL Salt se basically kicked the Pacific se outa my pocket and I’m pretty sure a salted Police might do the same to the Stretch XL Salt so bring it on 😉

I have been carrying at times the Stretch XL PE and Black Pacific SE . Like you prefer the Stretch XL in hand and hope eventually a blacked out Stretch XL Salt will come out and would go SE . A Police Salt regardless of set up would be a win in both blades . Dan
