Buy the gunting?

#1

Post by Colinz »

I´m wearing a Delica for selfdefence today and thinking about upgrading. I´ve got two spydecos to choose from. The Police (G-10/SS) or the Gunting. I´ve read a lot about the different models. I have come to the conclusion that the bladelength I need is about 4 inches. I will ONLY use this knife for defensive purposes. There will be no woodwhittling, cottagebuilding or earthdigging. Some of you might think ”why rely on a mechanical lock when you can go fixedblade?” Well, a fixed blade is X inches wether it is concealed or used. Where I live concealment is a must from a PC and socialinteractionistic standpoint. A folder is almost half the length of a fixed blade when it´s not in use. Therefore I believe a folder will fit my needs.

So what about those 4 inches? Well the policemodel have them but the gunting don´t. Then again the gunting seems to be one well thoughtout knife. I will buy the gunting alright, but when (yes, WHEN) the gunting with a longer blade comes I will buy it ”again” and pass the old gunting on to a friend (with education of course). I will upgrade when the time comes because of the better penetration achieved with a longer blade that will save time in accomplishing the results that I need. There´s just one problem. Is there a ”package deal” somewhere ont the live blade, the drone, the tapes (I´d rather have DVD´s but there seems not to be any of those) and a concealment carry system? The cost is about three times the price of a policemodel (oooh, please don´t start trashing me, I know it´s a system not only a knife <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>). So in conclusion I have only two questions:

1. Where can I get the whole gunting-package-deal at a good price?

2. When is the 4 inch model coming?

Thank you in advance.

(I believe this is a knife forum. Please leave the legal, philosophical stuff out – not in the mood to discuss socialconstructionovistic implications on darwinistic theories of the origin of the species)

Colinz,

Of the two you list (I own both), get the Gunting. It is designed specifically for self defense, an is a better overall package. The extra inch doesn't realy give much of an advantage in most real world scenarios. If you expect to "duel" with knives, get a bowie or better yet a Crossada.

A custom Emerson CQC6 only has a 3.25" blade. It's still a GREAT defensive folder.

For a good deal on the Gunting set, try Terry (aka Fourcycle) at BFC.

You may also want to look at the Spydie Chinook as a defensive blade. It will fit the bill as well.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Thanks SKS, I´ve made up my mind about the gunting. I´ll try to reach Terry P. during the week and see what he can offer.

/Colinz (same handle at BF, KF and TF)
