Greed - or perhaps my acquisitive nature - got the best of me and I bought it.

"It" appears to be an Manix -- here are the most basic facts --

Steel: claimed: s30v
Construction: pinned instead of screwed (perhaps I was the one who was screwed
Hhandle: grey FRN (I don't how FRCP feels, so I could be wrong)

Was such a knife even offered by Spyderco?

If these traits are not dispositive I will offer detailed pictures, if I am able.

One way or the other, good lesson learned.

As far as i know a grey Manix 2 LW should have Maxamet as steel not S30V.
Hope i am wrong but it does not sound good but pictures always help.

And that's why I ask.

It is possible someone blade swapped a Maxamet blade into a G-10 frame and you were left with the parts they did not desire. It is not unheard of. Hopefully it is still composed of all authentic parts, and then you should still have a quality tool in your possession now. Pics do help so share when you can.

Highly unlikely since it's pinned

Not hard just to swap a blade on a pinned LW. Also I don't recall pinned fakes but I'm not really up to date with those. What finish does the blade have?

I guess I would call it satin (it certainly isn't DLC, and it doesn't look polished).

Is there a way of uploading images w/o a 3rd party account somewhere?

The blade logo is slightly less clear than my similarly finished Para 3 (which I believe is legit , and the jimping is is shallower than on my m4 manix 2 (in mint green!). The font also appears slightly different too.

As far as the knife itself, without pics it's really hard to say. Usually having non-existent versions is a big red flag, but this one seems like a non-existent fake version as well :D. I've seen fake lightweights but only screw construction. I've seen fake lightweights, but almost always with a stonewash finish (not absolutely always) and with marked steels that did appear in some lightweight version (though the handle color doesn't always correspond).

So could be a blade/handle swap or a not-well-known fake

I am really getting that vibe as well.

Now I am looking for links to pictures of a pinned Manix 2 pivot that has been disassembled. Superficial forum searches have come up dry, so far. I want to see what a real one looks like; mine *had* a ball bearing washer.

Ok, images working, 99,99% sure it's fake. The logo, jimping, finish+steel combo, overal "feel" visually, the bearings as well

That's what I thought & why I cut it apart: I was fairly sure I could feel the bearings on the flip.
