Lil Temp XL? Moderate Temp? Mid Temp? Discuss the 3.5" Temp folder here!

Sal dropped a very interesting tidbit in the Police XL thread that deserves its own thread:

What I would buy is a stretched Bodacious. Add an inch to closed length to match the Police 4, and you'd have 4 1/2" of sharpened edge. And I think the design would not suffer at all from the additional length.

The Spyderco knife I own that I think that would actually strongly benefit from being longer is the Lil Temperance 3. I'm pretty sure if it was an inch longer, it would be a more generally useful knife. That wide, short, thick blade, with necessarily strongly curved sharpened edge, would be transformed, and the handle would be a little less crowded for those with wide hands. The grip shape is already really good.
Hi Derangedhermit.

The Bodacious is still pretty new to get into larger variations. I'll need a couple of years with the model in the field and variations in use before I were to consider a larger one.

We do have a design for a Lil' temperance in a 3.5" blade. We just haven't made a concept model yet. Maybe I'll make one?

I'm an instant buyer.

Sal keeps saying the Lil Temp is a self defense knife, but it's actually a near perfect 3" hard use work knife. The serrations on the SE version are fantastic and are very close to the Caribbean SE. For a knife with thicker blade stock it's much more slicey than you'd think. The LW version really shines with the FRN having all the edges of the handle molded with nice contouring.

A 3.5" LW version would come very close to the Caribbean LW that people have been asking for. If you like the Caribbean the Lil Temp feels very familiar or vice versa. It would be nice to have those ergonomics and knife design not stuck with a Salt designation. A serrated Temp 3.5 LW in PD#1, CruWear, Magnacut, even Spy27 would be a powerhouse of a knife. Offering more than VG10 and k390 would likely draw more peoples attention. That being said I'm sure with the way the current Lil Temp LW is the pricing on this knife would be higher than expected but it would be worth every penny as a near perfect knife.

I think the Lil Temp LW is one of the best feeling knives in hand. A bigger version would only be better. I’m interested in how this project develops.

Sounds interesting, I definitely like the idea of. The Lil Temp is a great knife just too small and cramps my hand . A slightly larger version would solve that problem , really like the concept of the knife . MG2

I wouldn't mind if the company went all out with a 4-inch blade and called it the Temperance folder.

I love everything about the Lil Temp except for its size and the fact that I prefer no thumb ramp. I almost bought one but then the Bodacious came along and provided those changes. The only thing I'd ask more from a Bodacious is about 3/4- 1 inch or so more edge length and to bring back the edge even closer to the handle. A Big Temp would give me closer to the size I want but then I'd be back to having a thumb ramp. I'd definitely be interested but if I had it my way I'd skip over this and go straight to a Bodacious XL.

I think if you squint enough, a Lil Temp XL is very close to a Caribbean.

Instant buy. In the knife comparison thread, I requested (and got) the Bodacious and Lil’ Temp side by side a while ago for exactly this reason—I love everything about the Lil’ Temp but want a bigger blade.
Recent favourites: Massad Ayoob CPM CRU-WEAR PE & SE, Yojimbo 2, Lil' Temperance 3 K390.
Looking to add: Spyderco C131CFP Terzuola Slipit.

I've mentioned this knife before ~ My dream Spyderco would be a Lil' Temperance XL.

(Well, my dream knives are this and a full sized Native slipjoint, but that's another story!)

For the new knife, although a 3.5” blade would be a step in the right direction, I think the difference of just over half an inch from the current model wouldn't be a strong enough change to encourage me to buy one. I'd like to see it with a solid 4” blade.

Earlier, my favourite idea on this one was red G-10 scales, but I also love the Micarta I have on my Crucarta PM2. I think scale choice is very important here as this knife has such deep scales to really show-off the colour/material used.

This is one knife I would look forward to, but I hope the bosses consider going a step further up to a 4” blade, to create an attractive new model.

I'm on board with any handle forward design, so a Lil Temperance 3 with a 3.5" blade would be right up my alley. Particularly because it would (presumably) be made in Seki also, and therefore a K390 version could be on the table. That said, a Lil Temp family of knives would be cool to see, along the lines of the Millie 4"/PM2 3.5"/Para3 3".

Such a great handle design.

I'm all for a 4" version too, but 3.5" is big enough that I'd try one since I like the original design so much.

I love the Lil Temp LW. I really think it is one of Spyderco's best. I do prefer a longer blade though, so that would make it even better. A Salt version would be great too, but there is no rust on my VG-10 thus far.

I’ll stick with the Lil’Temps I have and disregard whatever FOMO comes of this suggestion. I see them as perfect as is.

Well, that's fair too. It's a darn perfect knife for the under three inch crowd.

Here’s the thing about FOMO (at least for me), I often feel it for knives I think I’d like. For example the Knife Works Manix. Beautiful G10, 204P, and it only costs $160. Heck of a deal. But I don’t love the Manix (don’t hate it either). I’m holding strong. I haven’t bought one. For every scenario where I think that knife would be useful, I can point to a knife already in my collection.

I do love the Lil Temp LW. Even though I live in a city with stupid knife laws, I want this knife. It is a material difference that will only grow my appreciation. This is one of the few time where I’m willing to give in to FOMO.

My ideal would be a Temperance LW folder at just under 4" blade length, 4-way clip.

If Spyderco offers a 3.5" blade length Temperance LW, I'll certainly enjoy it, along with my Lil' Temp 3 LW.

4 inches would be too big for me. I know that Spyderco has an abundance of knives in the 3.5-inch range. Larger knives are an area that is under served. I would understand if Spyderco came out with a 4-inch version over a 3.5. Still, if I had my way, it'd be 3.5 inches.

The Lil' Temp 3 is a favourite of mine, particularly the G10 version. I would love and immediately buy a 3.5" or 4" version as long as the weight is kept under or close to 4.5oz.

Once a knife gets up to 5 oz I know I just won't carry it very often even if I like everything else about it. The Gayle Bradley 1 is a case in point. Fantastic knife but just too heavy for me to carry regularly unless it's in a belt pouch. People all have different lifestyles and needs but if you're an active outdoor person wearing lighter weight clothing then heavy knives are just a drag.
