I wish I could have an answer since it is a knife I would like to purchase in the future . My guess it will be be linerless . I hope someone will clarify. MG2

Nothing makes earth so spacious as to have friends at a distance; they make the latitudes and longitudes.

It's not impossible to make a linerless Micarta knife, it used to be standard procedure 20 years ago, I guess the main question might be is it strong enough to hold the clip screw helicoils.
This is linerless Micarta..

Great photo. Such a beautiful knife, a large edc folder hasn’t been topped since this knife

Gotta be honest if it has the same slight leaf shaped curved spine like the Calypso I'd like it more.

curved spines look nice but straight spines are better IMO. They work better as scrapers and result in thinner tips.

Close perhaps but no cigar
I've tried the Calypso, Chief, Police and Millie.
To me the Chief does everything better than the Calypso too.

That’s great for you man
What do you think the Calypso does functionally better than the Chief?
Good question. Functionally I think they both would perform pretty similarly with a fair amount of subtle differences. I could probably make do with a chief for my edc just as good as my calypso, but it’s the subtle differences I enjoy more. If it was all about function, we all wouldn’t be owning as many knives as we do, it’s about passion for the art form as well. I think the backlock rotation is more a bit more dialed in, more natural arc to swiftly open, I like how the lock bar cut out is closer to the top of the handle “cockpit area”, fully, exposed thumb hole, I like having a thumb ramp to brace my thumb back in choked up grip, ergonomics isn’t so much about comfort as it is about control over the blade/edge, I know I hear you often say the thumb ramps cramp your thumb often, for me it’s kind of how the grip is supposed to work to get a locked in choked up grip for precise cutting, just my opinion. I prefer the ergonomics and blade geometry on the calys more all around, It also functions at looking and being a lot cooler haha but seriously it’s all mostly just personal preference
Also though I really don’t have much in hand experience with the p4 or the chief, both of their choils never looked quite right to me, they both look a little short, and the chiefs choil looks a little too deep for my preference, I like how the calypsos finger choil is quite spacious and neutrally curved
Can confirm it's linerless. I handled it at shot show and loved it. No flex in the handle. I had this in my mind and didn't notice any additional handle flex.
I was going to get one before I found a Jade/Dlc/M4 version for a smoking good deal.

Interesting, thanks for confirming. I know Sal has been pretty adamant about not doing linerless micarta scales on larger folders, so I wonder what changed his mind?

The G10 scales on my REX45 Chief flex a little if I squeeze tightly, barely noticeable but they do... that surely would be amplified when using "normal" micarta, so my guess would be they somehow have stabilized the micarta for the Chief. At least I hope they have.

Eric. Sal told me years ago that they learned a lot making those linerless Micarta knives, primarily not to. Changes in temperature, altitude and humidity can cause Micarta to warp. Sal got to deal with that fallout. But Eric is running the show now, so it is his problem.
