If I were to design another long blade folder, I would lean more towards thin and lithe. More like the Police 4, but longer.

6" cutting edge length
Linerless FRN
Waveable opener option?

G10 to give a little more weight in handle to offset blade for better balance . CruWear would be a possibility and blade similar to P3 . Dan

Personally, just surface level stuff like the name and general design. I know they can be more creative than "Police XL." In the Tatanka thread, I suggested the name "C.O.P" - Short for "Chief of Police."

I think if the Police is to be used as the base design, that lineage should be obvious in the larger version.

I would most likely only be buying one to add it to the collection and show off as a novelty.

I'd consider it but I'd be far more interested in a Chief XL or even a Bodacious XXL. I just really favor the no thumb ramp designs lately even though I'm loving the Military 2.

Personally, nah. The Police 4 G-10 is already as perfect as an ergonomic large backlock for me.

One of the problems with a folder as large as the P4 is the tendency for the blade to be off-centered in the closed position. I have noticed this in other backlocks too, so I'm wondering if this problem is common in backlock knives. I wonder if a longer blade would have a more pronounced off-centering.

But, I won't spoil the rain on those who want an XL version. As long as it keeps the chamfering of the P4 and won't go the way of the Military 2's lack of chamfering vs the Military, I'm good with that.

Cool thought experiment!

- To me the Police 4 is a bit too long in carry already, the Endura is the maximum length I want in pocket (more cutting edge though never hurts)
- So: My ideal Police XL would have to be substantially and noticeably longer than the Police 4, so that in a model that I usually don´t carry day to day in pocket anyway, this would fill the "ton of cutting edge" niche for special situations.
- Thus: Clearly bigger than let´s say a Catcherman (which does add less then 10% in cutting edge length compared to the Police 4): Police XL at least a 5" blade and at least 4.7 " of cutting edge.
- Since I never really owned a Police, I can´t add much more... I figure though that I´d like the blade stock to remain thin, perhaps going from 3.00 (Police 4) to 3.20, but certainly not more.

Oh just noticed this thread after I already clogged up the other thread with my off topic Police talk ha.

This going to be a two-hander full fister.

**Trying to talk myself into a 4" knife but sometimes feel like my Shaman is about as big and brute of a pocketknife I generally need.

Because Spyderco variety is awesome and Sal is living life in the fast lane!

Some ideas:
- linerless, contoured G10 construction
- similar blade shape
- could go even lower blade thickness as it would probably be wider, so tough enough
- alternatively make iot slightly thicker but with a full/very high hollow grind
- give it the same clip as the Manix 2 LW (as it allows switching it to a deep carry for those who want it )

As for use cases - mostly food prep for me

You can say it, it probably easier, "Why not carry a 4"+ pocketknife?" I can only think of a very few reasons not to.

In all seriousness, I find 4.5" blades better than 4", 4" better than 3.5" etc. with nearly everything I do:

- breaking down cardboard, longer blades let me stack multiple layers. faster breaking down large boxes.

- Easier to make cuts in a single slice. Shorter blades require multiple cuts in a lot of situations where a Millie or Police only takes one.

- how many of ya'll prep food in the kitchen with 3" blades? Longer is generally better for food prep.

- pocket machete use, again longer is better. Doing some trail runs and briars are growing across the path, I chop em down. Police works better than a Delica.

- They take longer to dull.

- The extra reach is useful at times. Whether giving my hane more clearance from whatever I'm cutting, or reaching stuff just out of arms length etc.

etc.

I find them more efficient for just about every pocket knife use I come across. For me there's no downsides, only upsides. I can't think of any advantage a delica has over a Military for my uses.

That's clever. Such a knife wouldn't be for me, but the name would be cool.

I love the P4 and can't imagine it benefiting from more blade length other than a novelty.

I like it for a few reasons. 1 - It maintains the law enforcement naming motif. 2 - Chief of Police is typically the highest ranking officer in the department. So in this case, the largest knife gets the highest rank. 3. As an acronym the name is reminiscent of their old P.I.G acronym used on the original Police models.

(As I was thinking about it this, this last reason is kind of a reach but maybe there is some logic hiding in there) Lastly the "Native Chief" was released a larger version of the Native 5. The term "Chief" in Native Chief could be seen as one indication that it is the larger version of its predecessor (Native 5). So the inclusion of the term "Chief" in the name "C.O.P" could also be an indicator that it is the larger version of its predecessor (Police 4).

Heck, I'm down for a couple just long as they are bigger blades. I want them in something really hard like Rex121.

Then please drill the lanyard hole even if I need to drill it out for my paracord tug strap. The current sprint run Police4 's never was drilled at all. You drilled the Endura4 sprint runs, to small but easy enough to drill out bigger.

Might be the right model to use a Tanto blade design, you make this blade longer, cut a blood groove down the length of each side 5/16" below the top of the spine. Got to have my 14mm thumbhole too...

I will buy them lol, just long as it's not a draw knife lol... Heck I am going to buy it even if you don't drill it for the lanyard, I'll drill it, heck I have drilled close to a dozen of the current sprint runs now...

Just leave me room enough for the lanyard to not get cut by the closed blade. The Police4 is close enough now as it is, once drilled. There is no room for error on the Police4 as is...

I got to drill a 13/64" hole to get the paracord straps I make pulled in them... You want to get really froggy and jump, just go and install a lanyard tube in the tail of the knife...

I really do like the lanyard tubes, figure that cost more money, certainly more challenging for us to tear down our knives to clean and lube... I am sure you guys have a lanyard tube tool, but I don't lol...

Make this a lock blade of some kind, not really fond of the old style liner locks, but the new compression lock is great. The back lock is great and I must say after modification of the few Manix 2's I have, I like that lock style once modified.

Then I guess I have not addressed the scales, dang with all the color options it's going to be impossible to please everyone lol...

Soooo, let's just make this B.A.K. for Jeb! I like green, dark green but not like the blue-green Manix2 I just recently bought for "forest green". I will be the first to say I just don't like it at all.

It's going to be changed one way or the other, or I will never carry it to enjoy it, right now it has two strikes on it, to short of blade and the scales are the exact color match for the Philadelphia Eagles football jerseys. If it would have morphed into the Kelly Green, it would have been fine.

Maybe Henry Ford had it all figured out way back when, you could buy any of his vehicles long as you liked black lol... So maybe we make this knife in the form of a kit. Heck I dare say most of us here like to take our knifes apart to clean and lube...

So Jeb's B.A.K. kit you can pick out the kind and color of scales, the blade steel and even the blade style. The drop point or the Tanto would both fit the same design of grips. I also want teeth on top and bottom edges of my B.A.K... I like it to grip me as I grip it lol.

This makes a pretty healthy shopping list... The kit form might be a Shiney spot though, well except for you guys that can't have longer blades, guess we could include an optional shorter blade, but man would that be weird lol...

I love the idea, but confused on the liner less requests. That thing would flex around like a wet noodle!

depends on the handle thickness. the 6" bladed x2 voyagers were linerless and had no issues with flexing https://www.knifecenter.com/item/CS29XX ... clip-point
