Mule Team blades in stock

For those of you who are anxious for a new Mule Team blade offering, I suspect that there may be a delay due to the existing MT blades remaining in stock. I think this could be a factor in releasing any new blades. When the blades in stock are sold off, I think we will see new blades being offered again. Sal has said that he doesn't like to have these blades remaining in inventory. I currently own at least 1 or 2 of every MT blade ever offered, for a total of 71 MT blades. Can you possibly add another MT blade or 2 to your collection or recommend these to a friend? If so, maybe we'll see some new offerings soon. There appears to be 5 different MT blades currently available at Spyderco.com :thinking

Note: It's my understanding that the SPY27 straight-spined Mule is a full-production blade intended to always be in stock and shouldn't affect the availability of any new MT blade releases.

I remember the last time this happened Mules were selling very slowly and I kept putting off buying them because I figured they'd be there "tomorrow". Eventually I bought four different mules at the same time to catch up. I'd recommend anyone putting these off should buy now because when they're gone they're gone.

Good example:
K294 is essentially an expression of A11 tool steel enhanced by the benefits of the powder metallurgy process. Also comparable to Crucible Industries' CPM 10V®

Yeah with current inventory and how long they've been there it might be a bit.
Over 880 mules in stock not counting the spy27s. Almost 600 of those is the VG XEOS.

I only bought my first MT two months ago. I have two now. I may have to pick up a VG XEOS, but not until next month.

I bought one of each but once I finished to build myself the AEB-L, a friend loved it so much that... Well, I don't have an AEB-L Mules anymore !

But the previous times I bought Mules, the shipping and taxes were so high it cost almost double. I can't really buy one more right now, even if I would very much like to :(

That straight spine SYP27 mule is a screaming good deal at $60. That's $6 more than a handle! I think it gets overlooked because "it's always in stock."

A casual bombshell. Any chance at a hint of the steel?

Doing my part, ‘27 is in the mail as per JG there at HQ 😎
Thanks again @Bolster for the recommendation.

For those who were waiting... the K294 mules are down to the last 3 and will be gone in a couple of days at the current rate. Last chance.

I have 2 of each except for the HIC which I only have one of. Love the VG XEOS it’s easy to get scary sharp and it’s my current EDC fixed blade.

Been hanging around the forums since buying my first Spyderco a couple of weeks ago. These mule teams look great. I’ve been wanting to pick up a new fixed blade for a while and it appears I am going all in with Spyderco. It’s great that these can be very customizable.

I don’t know anything about steels. Of the available steels what would be a good general use edc knife for hiking/camping/backwoods..food prep whittling kindling and such. I really want to try spy 27 but I prefer the traditional blade shape and think the straight spine looks a bit too stabby for my taste.

Out of all the mules currently available SPY27 is probably the most well round steel.

The VG XEOS mule is probably the easiest mule to get screaming sharp. I think they achieved the goal of making a more rust resistant version of VG10 because I carry this one daily as my EDC fixed blade and have seen no rust and I do not oil it often.

K294 is similar to one of my favorite steels CPM 10V with good toughness and great edge retention. It’s harder to get sharp and it will need to be oiled since it will rust easily. When I carried this I kept a very small cloth sprayed with frog lube oil in a small zip lock bag to oil knife after use.

I don’t think you can go wrong if you choose the AEB-L mule. Shawn Houston , @Deadboxhero did the heat treat protocol and he’s a highly regarded knife maker/guru. It’s at a high hardness for AEB-L which might drop the toughness a little but only a little so it will have great toughness with improved edge retention. It’s been compared to Magnacut which is surprising. It’s tied for my favorite mule steel with VG XEOS.

The two that I would recommend the most currently are the AEB-L and the K294.

If you plan to get more than 1 in the near future I’d go with K294 for its good toughness and great edge retention. They currently have only 2 in stock and it’s not know if it will be re-stocked again.

You really can’t go wrong with any of the mules in stock. I hope this helps.

No. The K294 Mule was available for well over 1 and a half years, at ~20 months.
