Sprint Run Availability
Sprint Run Availability
An observation is that sprint runs are available for much longer than they used to be (which is great as it means that everyone who wants one has more chance of getting their hands on a particular model). Case in point: Micromelt PD1 Burgundy Seki models which seem to still be available.
I was wondering if that is likely due to an increase in production numbers of sprint runs and can we expect it going forward?
Are the production numbers of each sprint run published anywhere publicly?

Re: Sprint Run Availability
I think it depends entirely on the model and combination. I wouldn't try to judge the whole situation on that one line of knives. Cost is also a factor, but again I even think this depends on the combination. If they announced a Rex 121 Para 2 sprint I wouldn't expect it to last even an hour.

Agree. The burgundy pd1 knives don’t have the same attracting factors as the compression lock knives and other popular models.Evil D wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 6:45 pmI think it depends entirely on the model and combination. Re: Sprint Run Availability
Possibly another reason why the PD # 1 Sprints haven't sold out yet is that basically, it's still CruWear. Spyderco has a lot of CruWear variants including the production CruCarta knives out there.

Re: Sprint Run Availability
It's all relative to hype and exposure creating demand.
Like those REC 204P "avocado" models. Can't find them anywhere and they sell out FAST, then get flipped for absurd prices. Yet, there's some other color models still in stock out there in 204P available elsewhere that do not sell out (Knifeworks exclusive forest green Manix 2), because they aren't as tacticool looking.
It isn't the steel in this case in my opinion, but just simply the tactical color combinations.
The PD#1 burgundy is kind of a purplish which is polarizing to much of the knife community, and black coated blades in my eyes don't sell as well.
That said... I've been very happy to purchase and use models in PD#1.
Yet I don't bother owning any REC avocados. (no hate, just not my thing to rush to, I have others in 204P)
Also, on the other hand, I am amazed to see 15V still available here and there in the Para 3.

Going back to Caly.
Re: Sprint Run Availability
Likewise, I think sometimes people also don't realize that K294 Mule that's still around I'd basically the same as CPM 10V. I think if more people were aware of that, those wouldn't still be in stock. In fact... I should probably stop telling people lol

Re: Sprint Run Availability
You might consider that there were several models of PD1 to choose from that drew buyers to their comfort zone . I agree though some sprints go very quickly in a different lock and model . MG2

Re: Sprint Run Availability
Some combinations will always have more demand than others, such as the PM2 that was already mentioned. Also sprints get released over a period of time to different retailers so the scammers can't just grab all of them up as soon as orders open, they have to hunt for them just like we do.
Re: Sprint Run Availability
My sense is there is somewhat less spending on knives currently. As compared to a couple years ago it is easier to get Spyderco sprints and GECs are also easier to get now than a few years ago.
My sense is that Golden sprints have sold out faster than some of the Seki City sprint runs.
I had also read about some production increases.

Re: Sprint Run Availability
I had noticed the same with the 15V knives and wondered if it was due to the large number of different models that have been and will be available. Someone who really wants a Native isn't going to feel like they have to choose between a Para3 LW and no knife at all. But Enactive could be right, too...or there may be other reasons.

Re: Sprint Run Availability
I'm sure Spyderco is making more units in general but I can't find a quote to support that. There must be several reasons including economics, I want Rex 121 but in Canada it's $350 and that is not family friendly. So, Rex 121 is still available in Canada. And, selection.... If I had $350 and had to choose between that and 15V. Well? The selection of steel and platforms right now makes it hard to pick one if you had to.
I think Spyderco heard people who did not want to flip out about missing out and helped out. As seen with the Mule Team. There is a standard Mule, a tough Mule and an edge retainer Mule in stock, plus bonus Mules if you have the cash. Sure, I think it looks like more stock around but I think this has been a great coincidence of intention, economics, politics, innovation and so much more.
What are you not buying so you can save cash for a shot at Proto X?
As a Canadian to Canadians, what are you buying before it gets more expensive in a couple days?

Re: Sprint Run Availability
I think this could be a correct observation, but I still mange to miss out :)
The fact that knives have become so expensive these days, especially true here in Europe, and that sprint runs doesn’t sell out instantly leads me to believe I have time to look for a better deal.
That’s also partly how I missed out on the PD-1 Police. There was enough time to grab one, but I misjudged the urgency and fumbled around for too long.

Re: Sprint Run Availability
Sorry that You missed it but happy in general that it's the police and stretch xl that sold out the quickest from the whole pd1 brood. Bodes well for more interesting iterations in the futureaicolainen wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 2:03 amI think this could be a correct observation, but I still mange to miss out :)

Re: Sprint Run Availability
It was entirely my own fault, but that is a good observation, and potentially positive takeaway, regarding what was the seemingly most popular models.horzuff wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 3:47 amSorry that You missed it but happy in general that it's the police and stretch xl that sold out the quickest from the whole pd1 brood. I’m generally not stoked about coated blades, but a cru-wear-esque chemistry makes sense to me in a Police sized folder, and I would have been very happy to make the PD-1 my first introduction to the Police model. There will probably be more interesting variations in the future, so I’m absolutely not worried :)
