Any recommendations for something under or around $100? There are so many models north of $200. Crazy. Looking to carry ever day stuff and use on light hikes.

I have both sizes of the SÄRMÄ ASSAULT PACK, and the 20L is a nice size for what you describe. Only downside is no water bottle holder. I added a molle one from 5.11.

I’ll 3rd Osprey, and 2nd REI.

I also have a couple of Kletterwerks by Mystery Ranch, pre- Yeti buying the company. Build quality and materials on mine are top notch. You can find some MR models on sale in your price range, depending on color choice and if you don’t mind buying a model that’s discontinued.

I've used an Osprey pack while backpacking for over a decade now, they're great bags.

If you're checking out REI though, I would also suggest looking into their "REI Co-Op" brand they sell. I got a 25l REI Co-Op backpack for $25 on sale and it has lasted me well over 5 years. I just don't remember when exactly I got it but it has served me well for years.

Camelback is also a great option too. Their backpacks are made well, they have a ton of variety to choose from, and they offer a lifetime warranty. I have a Camelback from around 2004 that I could still use but it's very small, less than 10l, so I rarely use it these days.

I have an Osprey 18L Daylite and use it for just what you describe. I love it for that role. Gregory makes some nice packs in that range as well. I have a larger Gregory that I use as well. They have some good 20L options.

My favourite is this one: https://alpkit.com/products/gourdon-20- ... 1463716969

Light, durable, comfortable,100% waterproof, excellent quality and cheap. I also have the 30l one but use the 20l more.

I have and have been using - to include long distance hiking (multi-day) and long distance running (ultras) - a REI Flash 22.

the one I run with has many, many thousands of miles and 8 or more years of heavy use on it.
Still going... In fact, I have an ultra next weekend and I'll be wearing it, as I do on all my ultras.
