What do you do after your favorite knife company makes the ultimate knife?

I fell in love with Spyderco because of the Military.

I asked for Spyderco to incorporate the same changes the Para 1 > Para 2 received into the Military.

They did.

Then I asked about a salt version.

It's about to come out.

What do I do after I buy 5-10 of my ultimate folder?

I feel like I could be done collecting knives at that point.

I always said a Police or Military Salt could be the last knife I ever buy, and now that day will be here soon.

Feels bitter sweet.

Of course I'm as thrilled as can be it's here. But what comes after?

I really don't see anything ever surpassing the Military 2 Salt for me.

I've been meaning to post my Military 2 review that's half written but I can sum it up with one sentence: I've been collecting knives since the 1980's and it's the best single blade locking folder I have ever owned, no exceptions.

The Salt version will be even better.

i know how you feel. that's how i feel about the manix salt too. i'm also pretty excited for the military salt. i'm sure spyderco will keep bringing us back though.

Maybe you're right, you're all done buying any more knives.

But also, maybe you're wrong... We don't know what we don't know. Something else may come along that piques your interest just enough to win some pocket time over the Military 2 Salt. Time will tell.

Now your job is to find an even better knife.

So I totally understand how you feel. But let me say. You may never need a different model ever again. BUT, what if you go to Europe? What if your tastes change? What if? There are so many uncertainties in life. Maybe you will be done buying knives for a while. As far as this community goes you are appreciated and your opinions are welcome. Just because you may have found the perfect knife doesn’t mean your journey ends. Sounds like you are hitting the sweet spot. Enjoy it! Tell us all about it! But don’t forget we all are the same. All of us love Spyderco and knives. I guess I’m just saying we understand.

This is quite the journey. To continue thriving, are you willing to part with any of your older Spydercos? I'm sure blade binge may have some followers. Just a thought. Thank you for the privilege of your time.

I'll be making all sorts of aftermarket scale combos I'm sure. I plan to make a green micarta version, a Ti version, etc.

I have never pre-ordered a Spyderco, and I've been vocal about never paying over $200 for a knife. That changes now. I already pre-ordered a few of these from different sites. This is one knife I have zero hesitation breaking that rule for.

I guess with the folding knife settled, I need to see some new EDC sized fixed blades and Bushcraft knives from Spyderco. I'd also be curious to see any new culinary releases naturally!

I've been purging over the years,including stuff I never expected to part with when I bought it. K390 Police, 4V Manix XL, etc.

Seeing these coming I know I'll be trimming more. I'm sitting on so many Pacific Salts for one.

It's never the end. At least, that's how it is for me. There's always something new to explore.

Mebbe that button-actuated comp lock on the Sage 6 could find its way to a future Millie. It would definitely get me to open my wallet again.

The Chaparral did this for me. I still buy an odd knife now and then, but nothing with any purpose.

No! You go back for a do-over and see what's next.

I thought I had all the good Spydercos and wouldn't need another. Then Sal pulled a fast one with the Stretch 2 XL. That's obviously the best Spyderco ever made, so I bagged both a lightweight and a heavyweight. What more could I possibly ask for? I don't know, but if it was offered in REX121 or the new mystery steel, I might give it a go. Other than that, I don't want anything. But maybe Eric has something up his sleeve, and he'll blow up the current paradigm with his next design. Anything is possible.

G10 UKPK’s have been made that are the best for most of Europe.

I completely stopped buying knives after acquiring my Native Chief in 2021. And for years leading up to that I was buying few knives anymore, anyway. I keep saying that if I ever buy another knife again someday, it may be (name-the-model). But I never do.

I stopped buying knives NOT because I felt the Chief was my grail knife; it was out of necessity. I still love good knives, but I feel no desire to "have to have" any more knives. It's freeing. I still enjoy the knives I have, probably more now than I did when I felt that incessant "need" to acquire more. Because I'm taking the time to bond with certain knives I might not have, had I still felt that obsessive need to acquire "the next big thing."

I really have no sentimental feelings around not buying knives anymore.

The longer you go without accumulating more knives, the harder it becomes to break the inertia and start buying again, even if more disposable income becomes available.

Not to be flippant, but you could get one with a weak detent and remember why you liked back locks. You never know.
Otherwise, I think it would be great to have one model as the be-all-end-all. It would make things easier. I can't see it happening to me though. There will be great ones on the horizon. I just posted in another thread about how much I like the Lil Temp 3 LW, for example. It's a different design style than most of my other Spydercos, but it's great. I wouldn't have known if I had settled on others. An XL would be incredible, and you would love it...

Vivi - you have contributed so much to this group / forum over the years. I think you should continue to enjoy the group and buy knives that give you joy!

I feel that I could probably have stopped with that very first Military in full serrated 440V and been fine. I still use her as my go to farm knife to this day even though I have so many more classic and modern Spydie folders. I enjoy trying new models and collecting a few such as my Military collection which is still lacking a couple models. Now I have decided to try to have a complete Military 2 collection while I can buy them at normal or even sale prices...

Stick around and enjoy is what I advise!
