Forum knives and collectors club?

#1

Post by bandaidman »

What years were spyderco forums knives produced? Any plans in future for any?

Also are the collectors clubs knives still being produced?

I believe the last Forum knife was a special PM2 in 2018 . A complete listing has not been developed on Spydiewiki , but can say there have been Natives , and Adventura as Forum knives and may have missed mentioning any other I can remember. There has been discussions on a thread about the subject to make another Forum knife . As far as I know CC knives are still produced for collector members . MG2

Awesome list @Synov ! A list on the wiki has been made now: https://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php/Forum_knives.

There was also a Matriarch for Bladeforums, in gray FRN in 2000. In 2013, Spyderco also made a Native 5 with moonglow scales for the EDC Forums and a Catcherman with a toxic green handle and black blade for the USN forums.

Thanks for doing that. I included the Bladeforums knives because there is a specific Spyderco section there that Sal participates in. There are some other "forum knives" that you didn't mention but I don't know when all of them were released:

I was unaware that there was a purple native 4. thats interesting.

as far as collectors club, I don't see many recent releases coming out for resale (at least in models I am interested in) and was curious if they were still being produced.

Almost every model is technically a collectors club model. The only difference is that the collectors club version will have the collector's number on the blade. It's a subscription service to regularly produced models, they aren't special models.

The purple forum Native is technically a Native 1 not a Native 4. There’s only one N4 — the CF version and it was the only Native model produced in Japan versus Golden. Also, not every single model is produced with CC versions, although nearly all are. For example, there were no CC versions of the semi-recent SS Kopa (the 17th Kopa), which was a bit annoying to me since I wanted one with my number on it. The previous 16 inlaid version Kopas did have corresponding CC versions, so go figure. Cheers, Radioactive

That's very helpful. I have never seen the purple native 1.

I am not interested in the collector knives per se , just occasionally pick one up when it is a model I am interested in. Kind of an "accidental bonus". However, if I collected a whole bunch of cc with the same number I can see how one would be disappointing not to get one. It's quite a commitment to buy all those!

I’m very curious when a new Forum knife will get launched. It seemed like a normal event to do one every couple years and now it’s been 8 years.

Too little agreement. Spy27 G10 UKPK is the "unofficial" forum knife of 2024 based on the last thread.

Quite right and at the same time it has a special feature, because it is the only Native 1 with a completely flat blade and is therefore somehow the "non missing" link to the Native 5.
