We Really Need A Trainer Matriarch 2

#1

Post by The True North »

It's a purpose-build knife and it's excellent at what it does. I would love to be able to get my hands on a trainer variant.

I believe this is extremely important. Practicing manipulation and deployment as well as practicing basic motions in a safe manner is paramount with this sort of weapon.

Would love to see this come to fruition in the future.

Dear The True North:

A number of years ago, I chose the Matriarch 2 as the souvenir knife for my annual Martial Blade Camp training event. Every one of the 100-ish participants received an engraved Matriarch 2. I also commissioned Steve Rollert of Keen Edge Knives to make aluminum trainers of the knife, which I also included in the souvenir kit. Steve still makes the aluminum version:

Although it doesn't fold, it's as close as you'll get to replicating the live blade in a trainer that's safe for contact with a partner. Even then, the dynamics of the Reverse "S" blade shape make it unpleasant to be on the receiving end as a training partner.

Stay safe,

Mike

Very interesting. Thank you, Sir.

Did you design the Matriarch, Mr. Janich?

Id assume that it wouldnt sell all that well and IF you really wanted a trainer you can basically just get the endura trainer, same handle, lock up, spydie hole placement, deployment etc just different blade shape on the edge side which you dont really need in a trainer as a slash is a slash wether S curve or straight edge.

No, the Matriarch was a fusion of the Reverse S blade shape of the Civilian and the handle of the Endura. As such, all the credit goes to Sal. Here's an article I wrote for Small Arms Review on the evolution of the Civilian/Matriarch family:

It explains the history of the evolution in detail.

Stay safe,

Mike
