Think it’s time for another discontinued re-do!

Carried my Ayoob sprint to church this morning, it’s turned into my every Sunday church carry, it’s a very cool knife, I think we all benefited from JD’s relentless efforts to make this knife happen. I for one really appreciated his time and efforts to convince Sal and company to bring the Ayoob back one more time!

It’s been long enough, I’d love to see it happen again, this time with a true Hollow grind model. And I’d be completely happy with the same exact materials as that Ayoob, Gray G-10 and Cru-wear.

Several candidates that come to mind….

*Chinook 1, or 2.
*Rookie.
*Tim Wegner. Although I’ve read here that’ll never ever happen again, still a great knife!

These three were from a time when Hollow grinds were the norm, and they were all original Hollow grinds.

Curious your thoughts, and any other models that come to mind?

There’s been quite a bit of discussion lately on knife prices, but I wouldn’t hesitate to spend some extra on a nice re-do of another older iconic discontinued Spyderco model, just thinking out loud here.

I think and could be wrong but a Chinook model may be in the future , but not like has been produced in the past . Again I could be mistaken. MG2

It might not seem like it but they do this relatively regularly with sprint runs. For example, there was the Phoenix in 2021, the Ayoob in 2022, the Catcherman Salt in 2023, and this year we just got the Grey/CruWear Temperance sprint run - also due to JDs persistence. :respect :bug-white-red

If there’s a model you really like, my advice would be to campaign for it the way JD did for the Ayoob and Temperence. Persistence pays off. ;)

I miss my Michael Walker C22 every day.

Always wanted a full size Calypso.

Still lobbying for a Sage2 10v (I'll buy all of them lol).

I’m in, what about a Hollow grind C95 like the old 154CM Manix blade?

This would be a good one. I've regretted not buying one when they were made for a great many years.

I know I beat this drum often but there isn't any classic model I'd rather see come back.

I'd want to keep it simple. Do it the same way they did the one and only sprint, except scale colors and possibly steel.

Fine jimping on the thumb ramp. No jimping on the index choil. Black pocket clip. Full flat ground 4mm thick blade. Skeletonized liners. Backspacer immaculately finished so it sits flush with the liners.

If it needed to be an existing color & steel combo, I'd vote jade G10 & M4, or gray G10 & Cruwear. This models deserves a tough steel if it isn't going to be brought back in S30V. I wouldn't say no to orange & rex45 or red & 4V either.

It's such an amazing model. I'd love to see how people react to it these days.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

I would absolutely be in for a C95 comeback. If it were a production model I suppose it would have to be stainless, so S30V would be fine but SPY27 would make me happier.

If a Sprint, I agree with Vivi that M4 or, my favorite, Cru-Wear would be my vote.

Compared to many here, I fell into the rabbit hole not that many years ago and even stumbled for a while after I fell in, so I've missed out on a lot of great Spydies.

Not only that, but buying discontinued models is not always easy nor financially sound when your closest neighbours are Santa Claus and a family of Polar bears. Not exactly the knife hub of the world.

So yeah, I generally support the idea of bringing back old gems from time to time. There's probably a lot of new knife enthusiasts that find themselves in a similar situation as me, so there has to be a market potential. And I hope it's worth pursuing for Spyderco.
There's a number of models I'd be interested in, and for transparency - quite a few I wouldn't be interested in, but to not dilute the OPs effort I'll just give a big thumbs up to the ROOKIE and leave it at that. For now.

Depending on the price, I'd be in for a new release of the Rookie, C95 Manix, Schempp Barong, Reverse, Province, Centofante 4 wharncliffe, or Worker, among others.
