New or old Spy's with Caged Ball Bearing Lock, please

#1

Post by guacorilla »

Hi ladies and gents. I really love my Phoenix. The ball bearing is both aesthetically and and in use great for me. Can I ask what other models have this? I just ordered a Manix 2 but it doesn't seem to have the ball exposed which makes me sad(Can the plastic ball bearing covers be removed?). I also found the Q which I guess I will be paying a premium for. Any other models to look out for? Thanks again! (The white ball bearing looks amazing).

AZK has one lightly used for $150

Hand-tools.com has several NOS for $175

The Manix 2's lock cage can be changed to more premium after market versions from aluminum or Titanium. But if you are asking if the lock will work without the cage just with the bearing itself then NO there is no such mod available.

The only other non-caged ball bearing lock I can think of is the Poliwog.

Oh! Nice! So I guess its the ball with the plastic overlays on it? May I ask for where I would find the aftermarket options? Would love to check them out. I am about to pull the trigger on the D'Allara with white ball and the Q! I hope they're as awesome as the Phoenix! I wish I could find the Phoenix with white ball.

Any online knife dealer i know off that sells the brand of flytanium should have the replacement locks from them as it is a very popular mod. Ti and Alu are available in different colors and i believe there are also copper and brass ones. Personally i own 2 off them and i like them allot. There are also smaller lesser known makers that make the same cages. I think i have seen them on etsy for example. But i do not own those so i can not comment on the fit&finish off those.

The Tusk had an exposed ball and was one of the first LC200N models I can remember. It was probably the only model with a marlinspike too.

That is cool! Thanks for sharing that. I have zero use for that spike. I kind of wish I did though. That would be a cool piece to hunt down and carry.

No problem! The Original was heavy but so smooth and the handle was very comfortable.

I’m kicking myself for not getting the FFG redesign. If you grab one please let us know what you think :)
