Seki quality follow up

I recently posted about wanting a k390 model but was worried about the quality coming out of Seki. I ended up ordering an Endela and am happy to say it is excellent. Just as good as the Endura models I bought years ago. My faith has been restored.

Was the edge clean? Both K390 Seki knives I've gotten had a nasty burr on the edge. Have heard the same from others too.

I have a K390 Wharnie Delica and a K390 Endela. Actually been switching between both the past few days. Both came with great edges.

Thanks for the follow-up. I'm not surprised... Enjoy!

My most recent Seki models are a Police 4 LW SE in K390 and an Endela in PD#1. Both have excellent fit & finish, good blade centering, zero blade play or rock, nice even grind, and a clean, sharp, though somewhat coarse, edge. Screws were snug but not tight. I added a little blue loctite to them and a drop of KPL on the pivot, then tweaked the edge to my liking and put them to work.

Glad you picked one up. I've been on a seki binge lately (I find them best for work) and have really been enjoying them. Now if the summer heat would ease up a bit ill carry my k390 more. Cheers

I have a year old Delica Wharncliffe K390 & a three week old Endela Sprint Micro Melt PD1.
Quality of both have been very good. No Blade Rock,
Edge on both were perfect, no side play & very smooth action. I would give Seki City a AAA+++
Keep up the great work !!!

I have the Endura k390 wharncliffe and the stretch 2 K390, the Endura grind was not uniform on one side, the front half was at 15dps whihc was no issue as I sharpened the entire knife to 15dps anyways and the stretch came perfect. didnt know there was a quality issue at all, mine were just as good as say a golden model with FRN

Three Delicas at the moment, all are close to perfect.
No complaints.

I continue to be baffled, then.
Every single lockback I have from Spyderco has vertical play, but every week someone posts about their zero play lockbacks here.
I think I'm going to bust out a scale and record how much pressure it takes on the cutting edge to make the locks rock on all my spyderco lockbacks.
I don't feel like I'll ever get to the bottom of this. How I can have handled over 500 spyderco lockbacks, all with some degree of rock, but everyone else here has zero play lockbacks.
I don't even care about the rock on my knives. I just want to know why I can't find any spydies without it, but everyone else can.
My Catcherman sprint included. Rocked right out of the box. Still love all my spydie lockbacks either way most carried knives I own.

I have some with, but I absolutely have, and had some without.

FWIW, the TiCN coated Seki knives I have experienced had zero "lock rock", which has been about 8 examples so far. All but a few satin knives have had at least a slight hint of rock.

I've got my scale and notepad ready. I'll be doing the testing after I write my Catcherman review. I have unused TiCN and satin seki lockbacks to test as well as users. It's something I always check for out of the box so I know it isn't something that's developed through rough use.

You know it is an interesting note, it seems that the slight amount of movement that my Endura has probably originates with the pivot bushing having a little wiggle, not the lock mechanism. It might not always be the lock that is rocking if mine is any example.

Count me baffled too. I have 34 Seki and 8 Golden lockbacks and they all have some degree of lock rock. Given this is 100% of a sample size of 42, I find it very difficult to accept that others have multiple examples with zero rock lock. Sometimes a brand new knife will be quite tight but as soon as it has a little use the rock is evident. I think it must be a matter of the way people use their knives. When the rock is obvious is bearing down hard on an unyielding surface. Unless the knives they are talking about are unused I find it difficult to accept that if they were gripped firmly and the blade pressed down strongly onto a cutting board as if cutting something hard, that there would no rock at all. Either that or I am incredibly unlucky. 42 out of 42 is long odds.
Lock backs are still well and truly my favourite lock type by the way.

I have 27. They all had some degree of up and down blade movement when I received them.
