Native Chief to Native 5 blade swap shenanigans

#1

Post by Evil D »

Time to answer the question that nobody wanted an answer for....what do you get when you blade swap Native 5 with Native Chief?

You get these horrible scenes that you can't unsee.

The victims, a St Nick's Chief and a MagnaCut Salt:

Image

Unfortunately for some reason I couldn't get the Salt lock bar pivot pin to fit into the St Nick's lock bar so I couldn't assemble them together at the same time. The lock bar on the Chief is actually a bit longer in the back than the Salt so it couldn't be assembled into the Salt handle.

Don't laugh he ran out of hot water.

Ok so that's actually practical. It will close properly and the blade doesn't hit anything inside just like it normally should. If you really wanted a full size handle but maybe are limited by blade length laws, this could be a real thing.

Then there's this monstrosity..

0/10, can not recommend. Can't decide if tip up is worse than tip down or visa versa.

I'm sorry for this thread but now I can't undo it :winking-tongue

It may be possible to build a safety hunter pattern from the Chief blade/ N5 handle combo. :thinking :winking-tongue

Now I’m curious to know if the Lil Native backlock blade would swap into a Chief handle. :grin-squint

Ahahah, you could not have said it better ! I called the big handle small blade Native Chive, what should we call the small handle big blade one ? Native Ratio ?

I don't have one but I wonder if they really kept the pivot/lock area the same on those too? It seems smart if they did, why do more R&D on a shortened version if you can get away with not? Knowing Spyderco though they probably did, we can see that the Chief is not just simply a longer Native, given their choice to change the lock bar length.

😅😅 that’s amazing! Thanks for sharing!

I’m sure someone could 3D print a blade cover for the protruding blade that could attach to the lanyard hole or clip screw holes… 🤔

This is why Spyderco discourages disassembly. 🤣

The little native lock back blade fits in the n5 handle. At least on the rocks glass. Couldn't see if it folded up right.

Very fun. For the longer blade, chops are an option. Remember, you don't need an accidentally broken or damaged blade to do a chop. =P
