MT40P – HIC Mule Team Dropping Soon!

#1

Post by TazKristi »

Coming 7-Feb. at 09:00 AM MST—the MT40 Mule Team featuring High-Impact Ceramic (HIC) blade material!

Harder than any conventional blade steel, this remarkable material makes this Mule Team™ blade the most unique we’ve ever offered.

Oh man ! Thanks for the announcement.
I don't think i'd be able to get one, but definitely looking forward for everyone's feedbacks.
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

I don't know whether I'm intrigued, suffering from FOMO, or if I should just set my alarm for next Wednesday morning and try to forget about it until then.

It's supposed to rain heavily next week, so I'll be stuck inside anyway. Might as well do a bit of Mule Hunting.

It will be interesting to see if spyderco has managed to put a better edge on these than the original kitchen knives made out of them. (I own the paring knife and the chef knife)

Will there be a QTY limit per household? My wallet will limit me to 2 if possible...

From the site page:

"Although HIC is more durable than conventional ceramic materials, it is still not as resilient as steel. It is, therefore, not warranted against breakage. Because it has slight dimensional differences compared to steel Mules, the MT40 also will not fit in our standard aftermarket Boltaron® sheath; however, a dedicated sheath specific to the HIC Mule is available. HIC's extreme hardness requires diamond or cubic boron nitride (CBN) sharpening media. For best results, finer grit (at least 600 grit) abrasives are recommended. MT40 Mules may also be returned to Spyderco for sharpening."

As expected (to me) but this may scare off some!

The listing says a dedicated sheath is available, but I don't see one for sale separately. Is it included with the blade?

Awesome. Will this be sold via the normal Spyderco site as always or the new special events site like from the most recent seconds sale?

I looked for the HIC Mule sheath as well...if not included, will it also be available Feb.7? Be nice to get them all in the same shipment. Please let me know. Thanks!

Take care -

$150 each isn't as bad as I feared. Probably have to grab a pair if they'll let me.

I knew these would cost more - torn between aiming for 1 vs 2 (if those are both options).

Are these as hard to sharpen as a ceramic kitchen knife? Because I've had *no* success trying to sharpen those with diamond stones. I've managed to remove material and reprofile it a bit, but I don't think I'm managing to form an apex on it.

Impressive Mule. Don't know if I'm enough of a collector to pick one up.
High maintenance knife, and I've got about 20 others the same size.
Marked the calendar, we'll see next Wednesday.
