New to the forum and Spyderco

#1

Post by Ozark75 »

I just pulled the trigger on my first Spyderco, a new Delica 4 K390. I typically collect / carry traditional(ish) knives. 2.5 - 3 inch blades with natural material handles. Mostly slipjoints (lionSTEEL jack, Northwoods Bear Lake, LeThiers Par Chambriard, etc.), but I do have a Castillo Listo lockback and a Fallkniven GP linerlock.

I'm pretty excited to step into the Spyderco world. Quite curious to see where this journey leads me......

Welcome to the Forum. That is a great first choice. The Delica is my favorite 3" folder and K390 is my favorite tool steel. It is a dream combo.

Welcome to the forum!

The Delica is a great choice, there are actually two threads going on right now where people lay out why this little folder is so well liked by many.
Just one of those basic, fundamental design concepts that imo can´t be improved in themselves, but can very well get refined and fine tuned. And the Delica got refined a lot over the years.

I don´t own K390, but heard a lot of good things about it!
I figure though you should probably have at least some experience when it comes to sharpening and own corresponding sharpening gear.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

The GP is a good knife. I ended up selling mine when I got a PXL, but only because it was smaller than I like.

Fällkniven folders are extremely underrated/overlooked. Lionsteel too, honestly.

Funny I have said for years, if I had my time in Spyderco buying again instead of buying a range of knife designs like I did. I would just buy Delicas in a variety of steels, blade shapes and colours.
So often I pull a Delica out of a bowl with 5-6 more expensive Spyderco knives

Interesting Forum name you chose i.e. "Ozark75". Which begs the question: Are you from the Missouri Ozarks? Yeah I do know that some of the Ozark range also extends south down to Arkansas. But most of the really good parts of the Ozarks Mountains ( big Hills) are here in good old Missouri USA.

Just curious as to how you arrived picking that name? Well welcome to Spyderville!! Hope you plan to stay awhile. JD :bug-red-white O

Haha I was going to say something similar, I’m originally from NWA. Missouri Ozarks are super nice. Welcome Ozark75!

I'm guessing he is from the Ozarks and was born in 1975.
In any case, welcome!

Welcome! It's been a while, but I used to have a farm near Willow Springs, MO. That is some very pretty country and it has some nice motorcycle roads also.
