Field dressed entire elk with PMA11 Mule! (graphic)

Shot this cow elk with my 50 cal muzzleloader at about 180 yards. It was about 5:00, so I knew I'd be skinning and quartering her mostly in the dark. I proved that PMA11 steel holds a VERY sharp edge for a LONG time. Even though I skinned the cow, filleted the backstraps away from the ribs, then separated the rear legs from their sockets (not easy on a knife), the knife was still able to cut away skirt and neck meat readily. I did have my Stretch K390 (I love high carbon non-stainless steel!) as a backup but didn't need it.

Nice! Good to see a Mule getting this kind of use! And congrats on a successful hunt.
Because desolate places allow us to breathe. And most people don't even know they're out of breath.

Awesome job, looks like a great shot! I’ve used my magnacut mule on two deer last year so far and it worked well. Hopefully I’ll use it on another here soon this year.

Thanks a lot. I hope you do get a chance to use your magnacut this year!

Thanks! I actually bought this knife for this very test. I do wish Spyderco made a better shaped Mule for skinning, but it worked pretty good.

Well done! I was in Colorado on an elk hunt in September with bow. I had my 15V mule all ready to go, but my hunting group ate tag soup. It was a rough 2 weeks.

Thanks. That sounds like most of bow hunting in CO-- really tough.
