Snagged one off Spyderco.com just now. Looks like there’s still some left.

whenever i see runs like this "restock" i always wonder if people bought two and returned the lesser of them. i suppose it's possible that seki just sent them in batches though.

I was fortunate to land a Cruwear version without the lanyard tube problem. Fingers crossed for this one too.

Great pic! I got mine yesterday and it has the issue too. Really mind blowing they didn't look for this in QC, given it's "specialness"

I don´t have a "lanyard tube Stretch XL" ("just" the LW), but I am actually a bit surprised that this was not noticed and solved already before even the G10 model came out.

I am not at all in a position to talk about designing and producing folders, but in my layman view it should kind of be one box on a general basic checklist if there is enough clearance for a blade in a handle - ?!

Replying to my own post... :grin-sweat

... but I assume the "blade hits lanyard tube" problem stems from the fact, that with the Stretch XL the LW version came first (which, to be clear, I really like generally!)

The LW does not have a lanyard tube and so obviously can´t have the "issue" - but with the LW the overall design and shape was a given already, and they just transferred that into G10 / Nishijin - now with a lanyard tube.

I am sure that if they designed the G10 Stretch XL from scratch and as the first iteration, a potential "lanyard tube issue" would have been detected and eliminated early in the design process.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

This was the only 'must have' that I found when it was revealed, plenty of other nice stuff but this one is a thing of beauty.

Last time I bought a knife was over 10 years ago. My first knife was also a spyderco. After coming across a post about this blue nishijin, I just had to have it. Thankfully I was able to get one still in stock. This knife pretty much reignited my interested in knives. The damascus is beautiful and the nishijin looks amazing when viewing it at different angles

Holy moley! This is your first knife purchase in a decade? That’s some knife lol

I like mine a lot, though…the one thing I had to do was knock down the edges a bit on the handle, hole, etc. They were a tad on the sharp side…especially for something that might be a carry knife and not stuffed in a case for future resale in ten years. Other than that, mine is great.

I don’t have a whole lot to contribute other than a poor quality picture and report that I got as perfect a knife as could be. No lanyard tube edge flattening, smooth action, well centered blade and excellent fit/finish. This ranks as the worst wire edge I’ve ever seen on a Spyderco. It was egregious, I should have taken a picture. Fortunately it’s VG-10 and a few minutes on a fine stone and it’s shaving sharp! Great knife, I had to restrain myself from getting two and I still might regret it.

Hey Vanka,

Nice score and nice pics. Hope you enjoy them.

Hi Hopsbreath,

Thanx for the pic and comments. Sorry about the edge. Glad you got it sorted. It's a beauty for sure and there will not likely be any more made as that was the last of the custom carbon. My wife, Gail, uses it as her EDC.

I wish we could have had a UKPK in Nishijin. Oh well.

Me too. Sadly, Sal said it has to be Japanese made knife. It was something about the nishijin marerial. I think it cannot be exported as a raw material. It has to be on actual product or part of a product to leave Japan.

Truthfully the edge was less of a complaint and more of an observation. Again, the knife was excellent in every way otherwise. Trying to set expectations for anyone else seeing something similar.

Fortunately VG-10 is such a nice steel to sharpen. I got a Damascus Delica a few years ago for a song from someone who put a bad chip in it cutting into a staple and didn’t want to mess with it. Took probably 1.5-2mm off the edge to fix it but it came out nicely.

this is my first stretch of any kind. i held the zdp/brown g10 version once at a store and then the vg10 xl years later. i always liked the design, but this one put me over the top. especially knowing that this was the last of the nishijin (i've always wished i had been around for a model with this scale material), i had to take a chance and pull the trigger. i actually fully prepared myself to miss out on it after watching it sell out a few times before i could afford to buy it, but then i got some extra cash for Christmas and it showed up in stock again just long enough for me to snag one. upon first inspection, i thought it had a really wonky grind (not edge, but the actual blade grind), but it turned out to be the lighting playing tricks on me. i was happy to see mine didn't have any of the lanyard tube issues people have been reporting either, and my son is happy that i have a new damascus blade for my collection because he's been eyeballing my damascus/zome delica for years.
