Has Spyderco been to space?

#1

Post by ImHereForTheMilitary2 »

Many apologies if this has already been fielded but a search didnt reveal much so I figured theres no harm in asking anyway.

I was researching why "USA earth" is stamped on the blades of golden models, and couldn't really find any good answers but I did find an interesting story about how spyderco was selected to be the knife put in one of the space probes along with other items from earth and thats what started the tradition.

Is this true? can anyone confirm? and if its not true can someone explain why they do it? I think its cool and I hope they never stop but it sure would be nice to know the back story on that

“USA Earth” is just a fun and unique little easter egg. You could simply call it marketing but over time it has taken on a life of it’s own as a defining aspect of an American made Spyderco. It’s like an inadvertent trademark at this point.

I do not believe Spyderco has ever been to space. It sounds like you may have stumbled across the artist exhibition “SPACE PROGRAM” by Tom Sachs. Spyderco created a few of their Japanese models with white FRN that Tom Sachs then customized to appear as if they were part of an official NASA Space program.

We could fix this. Send a hobby rocket into space carrying a spyderco. Question is which one? What is the lightest spyderco ever made?

The Sliverax has --but only to help out the space shuttle :smlling-eyes

Seriously though, it would be cool if someone can launch one of the LC200N models, as this steel had its origins with NASA.

Did that giant Silverax reeeaaaally carry the space shuttle into space? Or is it all faked, like Elvis' death, or Biden staying awake during a speech?

There was a NASA Delica, maybe. I don't remember much about it or if it was legit.

The white FRN Delica was real but there was no real affiliation with NASA. The “NASA” logo on the handle was customized and added to the knife by the artist Tom Sachs for his art exhibition titled “SPACE PROGRAM.”

probably not unless you are leaving the planet and traveling through space, but you could be an alien. 👽

What is significance of Spyderco being in Space? Think if you want to own a Spyderco you can say has been in space toss on as high as you can, or shoot attached to arrow, or in to air.

They will buy you bragging right, or just be like a grifter auto salesman and tell a 1/2 truth.

No significance, just would be really cool if Spyderco was chosen to be on a mission or placed in a probe that's all. Not many things get to say they were on a NASA mission.

Like some of the other stuff I post it's just for fun or out of sheer curiosity.

And I don't know what bow you're using that can launch an arrow more than 62 miles straight up, but I'm pretty sure you'd need a license for it 😂😂😂

i like to think of my spydiechef as my space knife. it's got a cool, unique shape, and it's titanium and lc200n, both of which have been used in the space program.

They’ve been to the top of Mt. Everest, that’s pretty close in my estimation.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking. I didn't think it was in space and wasn't sure I remembered correctly there being one. We did do a thread on a Space Force knife sometime back. Now that Magnacut is out, a Rescue or Atlantic Salt in Magnacut and in Space Force colors (dark blue and white) would be nice.
