Scale maker offering bearing conversion for the UKPK and Urban

#1

Post by kefefs »

Not sure about the rules regarding "promotion", so I won't name names, but I saw a scale maker I've purchased from before in the UK just updated his site to reflect a new option for bearings in the UKPK and Urban. Has anyone used a slipjoint with bearings in it before? How do you think this would feel? With how snappy the UKPK already is to shut, bearings make me nervous LOL.

Not sure I'd want bearings in a UKPK or Urban. I won't pass judgment until I actually try one but it's not likely I ever will

I can't imagine bearings being noticable on a UKPK where there is constant pressure from the spring on the tang. It nevers swings freely like a design with a detent ball. It would be similar to using them on a back lock. I don't think one would be able to notice any change. I could be wrong.

Try a SpyOpera sometime. There's actually a pretty noticeable difference. Do I think they should put bearings in all back locks or slip joints? Nah...I'm fine with PB washers

Hahaha, I stand corrected. I didn't know that. I did play around with one in a store and it did seem like a very smooth operation. Noticeably so. I just thought it was well made. Though the smoothest back lock I have ever operated is still the Rock Jumper and Leaf Jumper. My Rock Jumper may be too smooth. If the pivot screw gets too loose, I can snap my wrist and open it to the locked position without ever touching the lock. 😂

I did wonder if it might be him.
He has done loads of work for me in the past.
He is doing me some scales for a couple of Spy27 UKPKs so I will get a few and try them out.

Superfool if you could post pics, that would be great. I'd love a set of aftermarket scales for my UKPK's.

Ok.
Let me see what I can do.
To avoid sinking this thread in pictures, I will upload to Imgur and post the links.
Just give me a few hours.

That's interesting. I just got a Rockjumper and it feels like any other Seki FRN back lock I have. It's reasonably smooth but nothing like the SpyOpera or even a few other Spyderco back locks in my stash

Sorry for the thread drift
