What knives do people take fishing?

Whatever is in my pocket.

Seriously though, if I'm freshwater fishing, anything will do what I need it to. In freshwater I primarily fish catch and release so my knife use when fishing really only consists of cutting off lures to tie on new ones and then trimming tag ends.

Saltwater fishing, I just try to make sure it’s a Salt knife of some type. I don’t overthink it too much… only just a little!

I often fish with bait in saltwater so I usually like to carry a fixed blade like the Aqua Salt or Waterway for that.

Had the Caribbean and Waterway with me today while fishing the Cape Cod Canal! Waterway on the bike.

Pacific salt….live in tropical Northern Australia and have had several Pacific Salts in my boat for over 15 years. All still kicking on without issues.

Fillet knives are Dexter Russel butchers boning knives. (Sani-safe white handles)

I have a real nice bird and trout I use from the maker Jack O’Neill. He has retired now and I got one of his last ever B&T’s. I’ll get a picture of it tonight.

I've processed 50 pounds of salmon in the last week using these three knives.

Native 5 - while wading in the river, dealing with new set-ups
Caribbean - cleaning fish
Goddard - filleting. Used a Siren until it got dull, then switched to the Goddard and like it a little better.

Bottom is the only King I've caught - all others are from the current Pink run.

Absolutely!! The Catcherman has been one of my most stalwart blades I've used on many fishing trips over the years. The concept of a folding fillet knife is not new. But Spyderco's Catcherman is the ultimate perfection of an extremely dependable tackle box companion.

The full SE, AUS-8 version of the Catcherman is still a blade I use at least 2 to 3 times a week to this very day. There is something about the blade geometry and sleek handle design that make the Catcherman a dream blade for fishing and food prep.

I’d love to give the Catcherman a go if it gets another day in the sun, but honestly my catch is usually modest both in size and numbers, so the N5 salt has worked very well for me in this role. Easy to carry, practical blade shape and versatile enough to be a one knife solution on most of my backcountry fishing trips.
